THRIFT HAUL??

Good day, my friends.  How are you today? How was your week? Did you have a successful week? Yesterday I went bike-riding for the first time all summer.  Oh wait! Yesterday was the official first day of summer; happy summer, my friends.  I love summer, but then again, I say that about all the seasons. When I was a little girl, I hated household chores. It was something that kept me from enjoying the really fun activities; like playing with my friends.  As an adult, it occurred to me recently that I haven’t changed that attitude much.  Isn’t that sad? I still find that household chores is really just that; a chore! I have literally separated my life into fun activities and not so fun activities, and at times, my attitude towards each reflects that thought pattern. Now why would I do that!John 10 10Jesus gave His life for me, so that my life could be lived more abundantly. My life! Not just the β€˜fun’ part; but all of it.  He came to give me life β€˜more abundantly’; every aspect of that life.  My life is everything He has called me to do; because I am in the process of becoming the person He wants me to be. My attitude toward the activities/chores to which I have been called reflects the person, I am becoming. I need an attitude adjustment!  I must develop a more positive attitude! prov 31 31Here is an activity I placed in the β€˜fun category’… thrifting.  I love thrifting, but then you already knew that! The girls and I recently went thrifting and I am quite pleased with the pieces I picked up:

These are my favorite combination; black and white paired together.  When I found this vintage Metropolitan New York dress, I just had to add it to my already predominately black and white wardrobe. (Sorry; not sorry). It was $2.50.

This is a Simply Vera Wang navy blue tee.  I loved the pattern and textured design.  It was $2.00.

This is usually how I dress; I almost always dress in layers.  This Carlisle blazer is 100% silk, which looks like linen.  I loved the length and it has pockets.  It was $3.00!!!

This is a Loft dress, I picked up for $2.50. Loved the simple, comfortable yet chic design of this number.

I very rarely wear pants, if they are not jeans. I debated over these Banana Republic trousers, but they were only $2.50, which probably swayed the decision. I like the length, because they were a perfect fit; not too long, not too short.  I am 5″2.  I also like the combination of black, white and pink.

Do you thrift? What are some of your favorite finds? What is your approach to housework? Love it? Hate it? closing1brenda

  2. I love this! You’re so cute! …I’m somewhat of a minimalist, …I honestly JUST got rid of the last of my highschool clothes….and I’m 25! So SAD! I’m 5″2′, hate housework, and love simplicity! So when I shop its almost always thrift or second hand! …I’m pretty bummed by the lack of good thrift shops around this town I’m in now though!!! Somebody’s slackin! πŸ˜‰

  3. Thrifting is super fun! Like a treasure hunt! I just went yesterday and came home with 3 tops, a pair of shorts and a cute pair of burgundy jeans for my daughter! Love your outfits too!

  4. You are too cute!! Great finds by the way! I love when you can pick up name brand clothing at hardly any cost and I try to do that for myself and kiddos as often as possible!!
At the beginning of summer break I hung up lines outside to dry our clothes on and I absolutely thoroughly enjoy hanging out clothes, like it’s soothing to me and as I hang the clothes up and take them down later, God will bring a song to me so I’ll sing while doing so lol..the thought makes me laugh and it’s free entertainment for the neighbors if they can hear my not-so-great singing;) haha

  5. How fun!! I love your thrifting finds…you can’t beat $2.50 for a dress or a pair of pants! πŸ™‚ Super cute outfits! So true about having a positive attitude about even the little mundane activities in life. Thank you for the reminder and praise the Lord for His grace and mercy!!

  6. When I am alone, house work is a great opportunity to get creative in my mind. It is so mundane and boring that I can switch my brain to creative mode easily, I write songs, poems, worship, pray, think of things to write or I listen to podcasts or audio bible or I sing at the top of my lungs with the music turned up VERY LOUD. But……..with small kids house work and I ……well it’s long, boring and slow and I can’t be creative! So I do as much of the laundry as I can outdoors, I even iron outdoors, so the kids will play and leave me alone with my creative brain. The cleaning I have split into 5 minute jobs so we can spread it over the week and we can do it together. That way they learn how to clean well and no body gets frustrated. Maybe when all my kids have grown I will learn to enjoy thrifting. I LOVE what you found.

  7. I’m impressed by your style and thrift, Brenda…and you always wear cute shoes! If we think of it as house “blessing” instead of chores, it might help. I hate to dust but love to see the results πŸ™‚ I do a little bit every day, instead of total cleaning one day a week…maybe a “fun” activity can be a reward!

  8. I am in love with this post! Isn’t thrifting amazing! Hey, maybe you can make this a chore of yours! LOL Love all your pieces and how you styled it. You look beautiful like always! BTW a chore I can’t stand is putting away the laundry!

  9. I LOVE to thrift! And when someone compliments a purchase, I tend to blurt out how much I paid! A friend once said, “You don’t have to tell everything you know!” I disagreed with her because how little I paid is the best part! 10. You know, that’s sort of something I have been working on. I was getting stressed trying to get the not-so-fun things done or checking off my mental to-do list so I could get to the things I wanted to do. I’m trying, instead, to not be in such a hurry to get things like chores done. To just live…if something takes longer, then ok! Just living in the moment more – be it chores or fun πŸ™‚ and you did score some good deals! I agree – that blazer is a great length! Have a great weekend! πŸ’—

  11. You scored such bargains!! and picked beautiful pieces. I love thrifting!! I loved it so much, a couple of months ago I had to binge watch ‘Hoaders buried alive’ just to remind myself of the fate that awaits me if I continue thrifting (and not letting go of anything!)
Chores, I don’t mind … unless its laundry … because its never-ending and my washing machine has self importance issues where it picks and decides which items of clothing it will clean well (white towels it doesn’t clean, I have to hand wash those…. I curse the day I bought those thick plush oversize towels!!).

    • πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I should probably watch that show, although I have convinced myself that I’m not at all there πŸ™‚ But when you use the towels, you are reminded of why you actually bought it in the first place πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  12. Those are some AWESOME finds! I went thrift store shopping a couple of weeks ago and picked up a pair of jeans (among other things!). I have been looking for jeans for about the past two years, lol. Between baby, weight gain, and loss, it has been a process πŸ˜‰ We are also working on getting things out! We dropped off six!!! bags of kids clothes today and we aren’t done yet. Time to clean out the closets (and totes and bags, etc.) I am working on my attitude towards housework. It is a constant battle, lol! It helps me to see how quickly I can actually get something done. I always think it will take forever, but it doesn’t. This helps my perspective a little bit. God Bless and have a fabulous weekend!

    • πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I love thrift store shopping. It’s like getting birthday presents all throughout the year πŸ™‚ :). I have found listening to music or a good podcast seem to help the chore time move faster πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ BUT that’s when I actually remember to intentionally listen to something external, rather than my emotions controlling my thoughts

  14. Hi Brenda
I struggle to not actually loathe housework! Constantly asking Holy Spirit to adjust my attitude. In recent days my favorite thrift haul has been taking stuff OUT of my house and TO the Thrifty Shopper to donate.
I love you in that Loft dress πŸ˜€

  15. Good Morning!
I love to shop PERIOD! (LOL) I love shopping at Thrift Shops, Tag Sales (Yard Sales or Garage Sales) and Swap Meets, I really just go to look and if I purchase something, I might need need at the moment but somewhere down the line, it comes in handy. I purchased several printers, desks, chairs and other office equipment from store that had gone out of business and I spent less than $100.00 for all items purchased.
As far as chores goes, I’m stuck in the middle on that one, lol, I hate it but if its going to get done the way that I would like for it to be, I have to do it!

    Thanks for sharing your post!

    • πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ That right there is the problem! Picking up after everyone! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ And to add insult to injury, it must be done MY way πŸ™‚ Therefore I HAVE to do it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Lord help me and the perfectionist attitude πŸ™‚

      • Maybe you could assign different task to the other individuals inside the home. It may not be done the way that you desire it to be, but at the very least the task will be completed. Have you ever considered from a different perspective. How would you like as a daughter of God and He says to you that perhaps things you do isn’t always the right way. But yet He still loves you and gives you chances. I understand when you mentioned having thing’s done your way. When I recently became married, I still wanted thing’s to be done my way bc I presumed my way was the best. I never actually sat down to consider other’s ways.
