HEAVEN HELP US

Hey friends, how are you today? How was your weekend? Can you believe summer is almost over, although our temperature and humidity did not get that memo.  Today our temperature is in the high 80°’s and tomorrow we move into the 90°’s., very unusual for us, in this neck of the woods.   Well, I have found that along with 2020, 2021 has been a rather unusual year.

It has surely been a distracting year.  I think the enemy of our souls has taken delight in proving to our Heavenly Father how easily he was able to turn our eyes. Our conversations lately have been consumed with what matters to us most, whether it be politics, the vaccine, or the weather.  (I know, I know… I’m there too).  I think we’ve become a tad bit self-centered as Christians, just a ‘tad’, mind you, after all these topics do concern us, do they not?  We argue, fuss, and fight over personal opinions though, do we not? Unless truth can be supported by scripture, it is ‘truth’ seen through my eyes, the other person has their own version of what they saw.

Can the God of the Universe be trusted? Does He care about social issues? Can He be trusted with the things that matter to us? If what I believe about the vaccine is true, is it necessary to fuss with the one who doesn’t believe? Do I have that same energy about their eternal life? Do I care enough about them to pray for them rather than browbeat them with my thoughts about what I believe? I pray for their salvation but quarrel with them about politics.  Maybe I don’t believe that ‘greater is He, who is in me, than he that is in the world’.  I must argue my point.  At times, opinions seem to matter more than Truth. Truth has a name; His name is Jesus.  My opinion about the world and its issues is just that, an opinion, I know the end of the story.

The Bible tells me how this world will end, I am also told what comes after, whether I choose to believe it or not is immaterial.  God’s Word remains true, with or without my say so.  What are my obligations, as a Christian to those who are unsaved? I am obligated to display Christ to them; the Jesus who loves, unconditionally, whose mercy and grace is limitless, the One, who is quick to forgive, the One who remained humble to the point to death, the One who gave His life, so that I can spend eternity with Him.  Do you know, our Lord prayed for those who disagreed with Him? Unfortunately for many of us as Christians, we do not just argue with each other, we’ve taken that argument to the streets.

The most important story we can tell someone who does not know the Lord is that of salvation, hell is a real place.  The most important job one believer has to another is that of encouragement and edification in the Word of God, because our battle is with someone who is invisible but more deadly than the one who is visible.   This on going battle the enemy has with our Heavenly Father is for our very souls and between politics, the vaccine, the weather, depression and anxiety, the work of reaching the lost, will be left to a precious few.

The more we succumb to the distractions, he places in our path, the more unfulfilled we become, the less we actually do.  Unfortunately burying our heads in the sands will not do either, I tried that, it does not work.  The world needs an answer to its crises and as Christians we have our mandate.  Look up friends, look up.  The battle is not over.

Let us do what we have been called to do and believe that the God of the universe can change the hearts and minds of His created beings.  Let us do what we have been called to do and believe that the God of the Universe did not abdicate His Throne.  Let us do what we have been called to do and leave the rest to Him.  Vote for the one, you believe should be there, vaccinate if you feel at peace, (understanding as a Christian, you’ve been called to protect your life and the lives of others) but temper that with the knowledge that God is God, that He never, ever makes a mistake, and that the world and its inhabitants will all answer to Him and that includes you and me; saved and unsaved.  Let us do what we have been called to do, knowing there is a heaven and there is a hell.

Don’t let the cares of this world discourage you, trust in the Lord. How are you doing today? Really… how are you?

  1. Thanks, Brenda, for putting perspective on our arguements over politics, vaccines, etc. We are easily distracted from our real mission of bearing witness to the Way, the TRUTH, and the Life…Jesus!!

  2. Great post Brenda! If we (as Christians) can set a true example that points to Jesus than we’re doing our part as we’re called to do.
Lord help us to glorify you, praying those who don’t believe would have changed hearts for you.

  3. “…opinions seem to matter more than Truth” and Truth = Jesus. Yes, and amen!
God created us in Christ Jesus to do good works (Eph 2), His works, no matter what is going on around us. I am reminded of Paul and Silas when they were released from jail. The jailor asked what he must do to be saved. I’m thinking he meant saved from the death penalty for escaped prisoners; but Paul & Silas always and ever had God on their minds and gave the correct answer: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved!

  4. Totally agree with you, so why is it so hard not to think about these things? I think I still feel too responsible for what happens , as if I am supposed to do something and yet I feel very ineffective.
