HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE UNKNOWN

Hey friends, how are you today? How was your week? My week was fabulous, thank you for asking.  I must admit I have thoroughly enjoyed having our girls at home.  It feels wonderful to have our little family all under one roof.  I suppose I should also admit I have been called a ‘helicopter mom’, especially more so, when we homeschooled.  Personally, this title did not bother me as much as those who said it probably thought it should.  I have come to the conclusion, that there are many people who believe there is only one way to parent; and that is their way! But I digress… how are you today?

Today the Lord has blessed us with beautiful weather.  The sun is out, the skies are blue, right now, the temperature is a perfect 66° and the humidity is low.  I love the sound of the cicadas, it reminds me to be thankful for summer because too quickly, in my neck of the woods, winter will be here.  Fall rarely lasts very long because winter inevitably encroaches on its time.  We have learnt over here to prepare for winter as soon as summer departs. In fact, the month of August is usually our signal to start the preparations.

Time brings with it so many changes, so many uncertainties, so many unknowns.  How do you prepare for the unknown? Winter is coming, but will this winter bring heavy snowfalls? Will we have arctic temperatures? In our neck of the woods, our temperature can move from one extreme to another; very hot (over 90°) to minuses (-20°or lower). So many uncertainties and so many times, we are unprepared for the realities.  Same time next year, what will our world look like? What changes will come to our family?

We prepare for the future, with all its unknowns when we faithfully walk with the Lord today.  In order to be ready to face tomorrow’s uncertainties, we obey the Word of God today.  Today is important because today’s actions are tomorrow’s legacies.   No one acts in a vacuum, no one’s actions affect only themselves.   Today’s actions have ripple effects and can affect not only our lives but that of those in our circle.  Today’s actions matter! Today’s habits become tomorrow’s characters.

🎶 Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see; Oh, be careful little ears what you hear; Oh, be careful little mouth, what you say; oh, be careful little hands what you do; oh, be careful little feet, where you go 🎶

Did you know that most of the Lord’s promises hinge on our obedience to His Word? For example, although salvation is free and available to everyone, only those who accept the Lord as their Savior is saved.  I know…. Scary

Processing…
Success! You're on the list.

  1. Good word! We know that our future is ultimately secure, but while we walk out this life, we trust the Lord for His guidance and provision for those things we can’t see. And it amazes me how he uses the Body of Christ in preparation to help one another. 🙂 I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Wow, really good insights and observations, Brenda. Thank you again for sharing your wisdom. I love how God walks us through everything with His Word and His Spirit. And He gives us each other. ❤

  3. “Today is important because today’s actions are tomorrow’s legacies.” I really love that, Brenda! Yes, so important reading God’s Word today. I can’t imagine having to prepare for winter right in middle of the heat of August sun! Wow! That blows my mind! We sometimes get colder weather at the end of September here , but it’s typically in late October, early November here.

  4. We prepare for an unknown future by walking daily with a KNOWN God. AMEN!

I am doing well, BTW. Thank you for always asking us readers how we are doing today🙂. Went for a 2.5 mile run early this morning and it felt good! Blessings.

  5. You are so right Brenda, the future though unknown in all its complexities can be prepared for because there are certainties. While we may not know when we do know we will all face trouble and the time to prepare for it in our hearts is in the now. We also know we will all walk the pathway of death into eternity. Likewise the time to prepare for that journey through a living faith is now.
