FINDING BEAUTY IN GLOOMY DAYS

Hey friends, how are you today? It’s a beautiful day in my neck of the woods.   Although today may be seen through the eyes of the beholder.   Today is a damp, dull, dreary, dismal, depressing day. It’s a rainy day today.  I love the glum and gloom of the day.  I enjoy the coziness of the day, the comfort of the blankets and the contentment of warm soup.  It’s a beautiful day in my neck of the woods.  What does the weather look like in your neck of the woods?

A colorful sunset with purple and orange hues, featuring the text: 'This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24.'

I love cityscapes, almost as much as I enjoy landscapes.   Especially through the lens of wet, gloomy days.  And especially as our family drives past.  Do you wonder like me, who lives of the people who live in these cities?

Are they kind, helpful and generous? Or are selfish and self-centered? I like to people watch.  In fact, it’s one of my favorite pastimes. I like to make up stories about them.  They may have a family. They may be married for fifty-two years.  They are perhaps grandmothers or even great-grandmothers.  Some maybe rich, while others maybe struggling financially.  Do you like to people watch?

What percentage of the city’s population are Christians, I wonder?  Have they heard about Him? How many go to church? How many see Him in the beauty around them? Do I have a responsibility toward people I’ve never met?

I can pray for them, even though I don’t know their names.  I can pray for their salvation, though I may not know anything about them.  I can live a life wholly developed to Jesus.   Which may lead others to Christ, without a word from my lips.  I can proclaim the name of Jesus to those around me. They can then take that Word and spread it to others who like in the city.

A motivational quote from Matthew 9:38 overlaid on an image of a group of people in a public space, encouraging prayer for laborers in the harvest.

On this gloomy, rainy day, I should be the light that reflects the love of God.  How are you today?

Do you prefer cityscapes or landscapes?
