Hey friends, how are you today? Happy, happy forth of July. How do you celebrate this holiday? The Lord has blessed us with another beautiful day. Chillier today, but I’m not mad at the temperature. Some days heat and menopause do not align, even after I’ve spent time with the Lord. But that’s a discussion for another day. Needless to say, a high of 77° sounds like nirvana to me.

Our family has traditionally gone on a picnic every Independence Day. What makes this picnic different is the fact that we try to visit a local waterfall, at this time, every year. Throughout the past few years, I think we’ve visited almost every waterfall within a radius of about 300 miles.

Sometimes, it’s been just the four of us, other times we’ve invited friends to join us on these fun excursions. Most waterfalls are not close to the road. We’ve learnt along the way to pack light, especially when the girls were younger.

Hubby and our first born, do detest using their legs. Ahh… the complains, especially from the firstborn. The getting there is always the biggest hurdle. There is always fun, but we have to get there first. But we are a black household, so limited choices are implemented. Now, guess who enjoys hiking? Yes… that one. Some days, parents we just have to limit the choices we give to our kids. The Lord gave us that role for a reason. But I digress (again).

Our God is beautiful and loves beauty. Creation is His and beauty can be seen all around us. How do you celebrate 4th of July? Do you have any traditions? Will you do anything different this year?

What a great family activity–waterfall excursions! Did I recognize Cumberland Falls in one of those photos? We’ve visited there a number of times over the decades. Like so many thing in creation, each falls is unique. God must like variety!

No.. I think that park is Letchworth Falls in NY, near Rochester. It’s absolutely beautiful. Truly our God loves one of kind

Some of my best 4th of July celebrations included making homemade ice cream

Growing up there were always large family cookouts. Nowadays, everyone is in their own world. Great pictures/video!

Yeah, I have found that seems to be the norm lately. Which I one of the reasons my husband and I began this tradition. To get the girls out of the house on days like these

We usually go to a friend’s place in Nicholasville for a pot luck supper. He usually provides smoked pork or ribs or bbq stuff and corn.
Then after 9:30 or so they all set off fireworks, but Anita and I are usually in bed by then.
Well, yesterday I took a nap and we stayed for the whole shebang! I was dead in the water the time we got home at 11‼️ And am still “recovering” today! 🇺🇸

😂😂😂 sounds like a wonderful day. We had fireworks on our street. At the start, it was fun, but after a while, it was just loud 😂😂

We used to get together with friends or family, but this year we just stayed home and enjoyed the quiet. We had a regular dinner of sloppy joe’s. My choice since I am not allowed to have hot dogs and that would be my first choice. Then, a movie together and now I am about to read while my husband heads to bed. Happy Independence Day! Your waterfall photos are spectacular!

That sounds like a perfect day. Our day turned out to be longer than anticipated because we had fireworks on our street, which didn’t stop until around midnight

I remember 4th of July 1976. We traveled to Tucumcari NM for vacation. We went downtown for the parade. It consisted of a little old lady, (whose birthday it was) sitting on a lawn chair in the back of a pickup. Period. I can look back now and laugh, but as a kid at the time, it was a let down.

😂😂😂oh no 😅 since you still remember that today, that must have been quite memorable and I quite see why.

When our grandkids were small we would try to go to a small town parade and then a picnic in the park. That night we would watch fireworks sitting on the roof of our chicken house, go to my husband’s nephew’s house, or to the college fireworks. Now we mostly stay home and watch what we can from the ground … no climbing on the roof.

When I was a kid, my extended family often gathered at my grandparent’s house on the 4th. Everyone brought freezers to make home made ice cream. But, just like hiking to a water fall, we had to make the treat before we could eat it.
Happy 4th to you yours! God Bless.
