HE IS… OH YES, HE IS…

Hey friends, how are you today? How was your week? We enjoyed a week of friends, sun and beach a few days ago.   It was fabulous! The weather was a tad chillier than expected, especially in the evenings, but the friendship atmosphere made it feel much warmer.  Do you want to know something? I absolutely love the beach life (I am from the Caribbean!) but I don’t really like salt water on my skin and most importantly… I can’t swim! I know I’m from an island completely surrounded by water, yet there you have it! I can’t swim and I’ll let you in on a little secret… I don’t want to learn! I did try a few times to learn how to swim, when the girls were taught (do you know one is a lifeguard?)oh the irony! I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t like my head under water.  My friend says fear is my hindrance and she may be right.  But until such time, I will stay in my ignorance.  Can you swim? How did you learn?

Today is a good day, because I choose to take the Lord at His Word, according to Psalm 118:24 “and rejoice in this day”. “Sufficient for today” (Matthew 6:34) right? At times, my attitude, can be subjected to my emotions and my emotions can depend on my circumstances and, of course, my joy or lack of it, is then hinged on what happens around me, which is shame. It’s so easy to give people or my circumstances too much authority in my life and that’s exactly what I do, when a ‘good’ day depends on whether someone is nice to me or whether it’s a warm 80° day.  What I need to always remember is this:

God’s absolute, undying love for me is trustworthy. I can trust the Lord because He loves me, unconditionally and unwaveringly. I am absolutely loved by the God of the universe! Shall I say it louder? And His love is dependable and trustworthy.  How do I know this?

My God sacrificed His precious, ‘only Begotten Son’ just for me. Can you imagine that? Me! He wants me to spend eternity with Him and there was only one way for this to become a reality.  My debt was too great; the price of my sin too costly, there was just no way possible, for me to bridge the gap, caused by my sin.  The God of the Universe knew that, and He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the price of my sin.

The God of the Universe is faithful. Even in my unfaithfulness, He remains faithful. The truth is unlike me, the Lord does not need anything from me to be faithful.  He does not need my obedience, nor does He need me to be faithful to Him.  My obedience and my faithfulness are for me; it’s for my good and for my growth and maturity as a Christian. The Lord remains faithful to Himself and to His Word.

My God is true. Every Word is true, He keeps every promise He makes, because He is Truth. He CANNOT lie, or else He would not be God.

He is patient. Boy, is He patient!  If I were half as patient as He, I would be a better wife, mother, and friend, but I’m not. Thankfully He is very patient, He would have to be with a daughter like me.  His patience, gentleness and kindness go far beyond mere man’s knowledge.

He is a forgiving God.  He does not hold my sin against me when I sincerely ask Him to forgive me. He takes it far away from me.  He never brings it up again, He wipes my slate clean and grants me new opportunities for a beautiful fresh start.  Each acquittal offers freedom and hope, and the possibilities are endless.

He is good.  Tada! I know, I know… sometimes it’s hard to ‘see’ His goodness, when difficulties and trials are part of our lives.  The truth is, without pain, we have the tendency to fall into a monotonous relationship with the Lord.  We become passionate and zealous about the Lord when tribulations make their way into our lives.  And so, for our good and just because, this sin filled life will throw us a few curve balls and we experience the goodness and grace of our God during these times.

God is generous.  Remember, everything belongs to Him; the God of the Universe owns it all and He freely gives from His bounty. And the best part, it comes without obligations.

The Lord desires only the best for us.  Everything He does and everything He allows into our lives is for our good.  It’s for our growth and for our maturity as Christians.  It’s to make us more like Christ in our everyday lives.  We learn to love others better, to forgive faster, to give more generously, to live a life of kindness and patience, just like our Lord.  He wants us to ‘see’ Him and ‘know’ Him, so He answers our prayers, to create a history with Him.  And so that, we will tell others about Him and His love.

We can trust the Lord, my friends, in spite and because of our circumstances. We can trust Him because He loves us.  Oh how, He loves us! How are you today?

  1. I don’t like water on my face at times so I could understand not liking going under water. If something ever water to happen you could always turn onto your back and float. It’s a good trick to remember. I can swim but I’m not a crazy strong swimmer. I just try to take my time and lay on my back if I get fatigued. I am referencing when I am swimming in lakes and creeks. I love the coolness of the water. It’s so calming. God bless and hope you have a great and safe week.

  2. So often you write about what is on my heart! My mom put me in swimming lessons when I was little… probably 3rd or 4th grade. It was an annual summer thing for awhile. I like to swim, but I don’t go out of my way to look for opportunities. How old were you when you moved to the States?

  3. Guess what ? I have been working on a post since June 27 about unconditional love. I didn’t post it because I actually had trouble with the topic. I think God loves his children unconditionally, but I think he does have conditions because first you have to believe in Him. And not everyone will, so does he love the wicked? That question hung me up. His character is loving, but he also has a judging side. So do we say that his judgment of the wicked is loving? I also got into the weeds of atonement, limited or unlimited. I think Jesus’ death was effective for all sins, therefore unlimited, but not everyone accepts the redemption that he offers, so not everyone is forgiven.

    • He loves us all, wicked and godly. His love is indeed unconditional and unwavering that’s why He sent His Son to die for all in our wickedness (while we were yet sinners). But He is also just and it’s that justice that has to be satisfied. In fact, it has been satisfied, and those who choose not to accept this will be judged on their own merit. But He love us all and desires that none should perish

  4. Our attitude toward our circumstances is 99% of the battle we face in life. And, yes, I can swim well enough not to drown but I don’t like to put my face under the water either. Being a long-time asthmatic, sometimes it feels like I am breathing under water and I just don’t like that suffocating feeling, so I prefer to float along happily. And I don’t like the salt water or the sand, but I love to hear the ocean waves and walk along the shore, especially at sunrise or sunset.

    • That’s exactly how I feel with my head under water. I wished I had learned earlier, but now I think I’m set in my ways. You are so right about our attitude, I know for me, too many times, my attitude dictates my actions. May the Lord be glorified in our lives

  5. Yes He is!!!
“My obedience and my faithfulness are for me; it’s for my good and for my growth and maturity as a Christian.” Isn’t God so perfectly faithful like that? I just love Him. All these things that we find humorous or hard or painful or wonderful – they’re all because He loves us, and He is changing us to be more like Him, and to be more peaceful and joyful.
I could use some friends and beach and sun. Hard week, working with resources for my parents. But a blessing to spend time with both my folks.
    God bless you, Brenda! 😍

  6. The God of this universe caused me to think about the people who look to the universe and not God. Much better to know and have God the creator with us. 🙂

I used to be on a swim team when I was younger. Did you see dolphins or sharks when you went to the beach?

  7. I didn’t learn to swim until I was in high school. I don’t really like my head under water either. I often swim with my head above water. Not quite doggy paddling but something like it. I like to swim on my back as well to keep my face out of the water. Floating on my back is quite relaxing too for me. Great post, hugs and Jesus’ blessings to you.

  8. The lyrics of an old hymn, Count Your Blessings, say include in verse 2: “Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly; And you will be singing as the days go by.” I’d say the same is true when we meditate on God’s attributes as you have here, Brenda. You’ve got me singing about his multi-faceted goodness!

  9. Whoo Hooooo!!! Once again, you have put me on shoutin’ ground!!

Also, I have seen God work in the lives of my family the past two months – over Father’s Day weekend, one of my brothers had what he thought was a minor heart attack. The doctor said it was “perfect timing” when he arrived at the hospital – in 25 minutes he would have been dead!! Much more serious than it felt!
    He’s home now, doing well.

    God is Good!!
