GIVE THANKS ANYWAY

Hey friends, how are you today? The Lord has blessed us with the most fantastic weather here lately.  Our temperatures have been in the high 80°s and we even had 91° yesterday and today calls for another 91°. And all that beautiful warmth, under bright blue skies with full sunshine.  We’ve had undeniably, absolutely beautiful days.  Days that surprisingly that didn’t call for too much movement; it was hot! I tried to continue with my daily runs and ‘chill’, I couldn’t do it! It was so hot; I felt my energy literally seeping out through my pores.  In spite of the heat, I refuse to complain, because too soon, sub-zero temperatures will be in my future.  In the meantime, friends, happy June! What has your temperature been like, lately?

During the winter, I could not wait for warmer weather.  I prayed that the Lord would hasten and lengthen the time of our warmer temperatures. Now we are here, and I find myself intentionally abstaining from the words ‘I’m sooooo hot’.   How thankful I am that the Lord knows us completely, that all our steps are ordered by Him.  What a privilege to know the God who does not give me everything I ask, because I would probably run to Him to complain about that very blessing.

Thanksgiving has to be intentional, so as to counter our complaints. I have found that there is very little room to whine and grumble when I tell the Lord how very thankful, I am for all that He has given me.  Taking the time to count my blessings is a sure way to diminish my desire to focus on the things that are wrong in my world.   I am thankful for the heat, I am thankful for sunshine and Lord, I think I’m thankful for the bugs, this temperature brings with it. Okay, Lord, You know I don’t like bugs, but I am thankful for the work they do for us.  We will share the outside space but if they come inside, they will not live to tell the tale.

It’s too soon to share our summer flowers, some of our trees are just getting their leaves.  But it’s too late for most of our spring flowers.  On my walk, rather than my run, here are a few wonders on my ‘giving thanks’ journey.

Complaints are easy and usually takes very little thought as a matter of fact, perhaps it is when we slow down, we can appreciate and be thankful for the beauty the Lord sends our way. What are you thankful for today?

  1. Thankful right along with you!!
Love what you said about bugs: “We will share the outside space but if they come inside, they will not live to tell the tale.” 😂❤️

  2. Yes, I give thanx for every weather, but I am partial to clouds and rainy days.
If you look at Genesis 6-11 you will see the lifespans significantly decreased after the flood because the “canopy” that had covered the earth was removed. (Genesis 2:5)
A fun study is to make your own timeline from Adam’s “birth” to Abraham. Did you realize Noah was still alive at the birth of Abraham!? All because his aged body was not exposed to direct sunlight until he was 600 years old, after the Flood! Japheth, Shem and Ham were all still alive until Isaac was an adult for the same reason!! NO direct sunlight is good for us. 😎

  3. I’ve probably mentioned here before that I started keeping a gratitude journal in 2017. Each day’s entry is short–just one or two things–but I’ve found the review of the day to decide what to write is part of the blessing, since there’s so much to be thankful for. Gratitude contributes greatly to our level of joy! I feel the joy of YOUR heart, Brenda, in your celebration here of all things good, even when the weather is unbearably hot!

  4. I live in the desert, and we are having very comfortable weather this June! Around 100 during the day, and mid 60s at night. My morning walks are fabulous!! …It is a dry heat 😁🔥 It’ when the nights stay hot that we feel it the most.

  5. I’m thankful for peonies, and I love yours! They are blooming in our neck of the woods, too. I’m thankful for God Who gives us beauty all around us, and also gives us eyes to see beauty, and gives us hearts to appreciate.
    I appreciate YOU!

  6. Most likely you know this hymn:

When upon life’s billows your are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged thinking all is lost.
Count your many blessings, name them one by one.
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done!

Count your blessings, name them one by one.
Count your blessings, see what God has done.
Count your blessings – name them one by one.
Count your many blessings see what God has done!

  7. Thankfulness is a great habit to have. Here in the Far North, all our leaves popped out overnight about 12 days ago. It is raining where I am but 33 F and snowing nearby. Everything is growing quickly under the midnight sun.
