Hey friends, how are you today? It is a beautiful day in my neighborhood. Any day above 32° is a good day. Patches of blue can be seen in every break in the clouds. There isn’t a whisper of the wind today, but rather a constant roar. It is so windy today; the squirrels and winter birds have decided to ‘shelter in place’.

I can imagine what Jesus’ disciples felt when the wind and the rain threatened to overturn their boat. I would be scared too. When I was younger, we experienced a category 3 hurricane. We all sheltered in the basement of our church. I think what I remember of that time is the sound of wind. It was loud and scary. It sounded like the world was coming to an end.

There were so many of us kids. We played games. We were allowed to run about among the makeshift beds. I remember the fear, but I also remember the laughter. The joy of being together. It was nice to be part of that group of people.

Most of the adults made prayer circles. Perhaps you can understand. When people are holding hands and praying, and when there is a storm outside, it can be quite frightening. But it can also feel peaceful.

Six people were killed and most of the island was destroyed. The roads were impassable for weeks and months. But we stayed safe and for most people there, their houses also stayed upright.

Although in the moment, fear threatened to overwhelm most people, but prayer made a difference. The presence of Jesus also made a difference in the boat. He commanded the wind and the rain, and they obeyed Him.

Perhaps the storm isn’t outside but rather inside. Maybe the winds and the rain are like a battering ram to your life. Prayer makes a difference. The presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ brings peace and joy. There is rest when we talk to our God.

He already knows the situation. He allowed it or He actively brought it into our lives. Now that I’m an adult, I realize that He listens. He loves deeply. He works all things out for my good.

He is the final authority over every storm in our lives. Do you believe that? Have you ever been in a natural storm? Hurricane? Tornado? Earthquake? Did you know the Lord then? Do you have any storms in your life? How can we pray for you?

Thank you for the reminder of what God gives us to weather the storms in our lives. Yes, we have tribulation; it’s a good reminder to be of good cheer, knowing Who is with us.
When I was in 7th grade, in KS, we had a tornado. All 6 kids and my mom (dad was in Viet Nam) piled into the little bathroom, the only room with no outside walls. I remember my smallest brother and two sisters with pillows in the bathtub. 🙂 The airbase suffered damage, but houses were untouched.

We enjoyed homeschooling. The girls have both graduated with their bachelor’s degree. One is a teacher and the other works in an office, although she is thinking of going back into teaching. Our God is gracious. Time is flying past isn’t it? Too soon, we are empty nesters 🥰🥰 God bless you, my friend.

I love this, Brenda! It made me remember our going through a hurricane in SC. We lived in a mobile home and had to evacuate, so a lady from our church invited our family to her house. The children snuggled into bed, we prayed for them and they fell asleep. We adults sat on the floor in the hallway and talked and prayed, intermittently getting up to look out at the flood waters rising in the back yard. That just made us pray more and I think we also sang some praise songs.

That’s exactly what the members of our church did, during that time. I am thankful we are here to tell the story. God bless you, my friend
