REFLECTIONS of 2024

Hello friends, how are you today? Yes today, the final Friday in October, how are you doing? We have just a little over two months left in the year, can you believe it? Where did the time go? Didn’t 2024 just begin? Or are we done with the year? How we have lived the past few months unfolds a story of how we will end the year.

How did I begin my day? Did I start my day with the Lord and in His Word? What did I do immediately after that time with Him? Was social media next? News about the election? School runs with screams and shouts? Or did we take the time to mediate on what we read and heard from the Lord?

On the days, when I follow my devotional time with a ‘good’ book or an audiobook that is not centered around the Word of God, I am reminded of the parable told by Jesus in Matthew 13 and Luke 8.  It is the story of the Sower, whose seeds went on several journeys.

Some fell on the roadside, which the birds ate.  And on the rocks, though the seeds grew, it had no depth, so, they quickly died.  And again, some seeds fell among the thorns and though they tried to grow, the thorns eventually won the battle and chocked the young shoots to death.  Then there were some seeds that found the fertile soil.  They took root and grew and become strong, able to combat the winds and the rains.

The Spirit of God speaks.  He uses the Word of God to transform our hearts and minds so that we can become holy and living sacrifices to the Lord, which is our ‘spiritual worship’.  We are blessed people are we not? Both in life and in death, we are victorious, we win.

How are you doing? Are there any changes, you need to make now, in order to end the year successfully? I know I do; I need to ensure that I make time to meditate on the Word of God.  How about you?

  1. We begin every day with prayer, first thanking God for the new day and all His blessings! Then praying for His will to be done! From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the Lord’s Name is to be praised! So ends another day and I enjoyed reading your blog filled with scriptures!

Blessings dear Brenda to you and your family!

  2. It’s hard to believe the year is almost over. They say time flies when you are having fun – so I guess I have been having fun this year. 🙂 My husband and I begin our day with devotions and prayer. But I realize I need to take more time for personal time with God. So easy to get busy with life and let the day go by without that personal time. Working on that to end this year.

  3. We are nearing the end of harvest season in our neck of the woods. The crops are reflecting the care the farmers took all of last winter, in the spring, and all summer.

If we want fertile ground, there is no season of “kicking back,” so to speak. God directs us to take a Sabbath of rests, and we are to heed. Those seasons are when we rest and remember/appreciate His blessings and give Him glory. Even then we work to draw near to Him.

  4. This month I have been on sabbatical. Like you I am asking what changes need to be made in the New Year. There are lots. My life rhythm is one of them. Part of that is I need ton slow myself down and enjoy the journey…not make everything and emergency.
