Hey friends, how are you today? How was your week? The weather has been absolutely beautiful in our neck of the woods.ย ย The sun is out, the skies are blue, even as the clouds give chase across its surface. Although fall is very slowly making its way to our neighborhood, a few of the trees refuse to accept fallโs memo.ย Apparently, the fall foliage will arrive late this year and Iโm okay with this news.ย ย Prayerfully, winter will also be delayed and will hopefully not wear out her welcome.ย ย

Itโs hard to complain about the weather, when we see the devastation of the last week in some cities along the east coast, especially in North Carolina. Quite a few of our church members are from NC. In July, on our way to Myrtle Beach, we spent the night in NC. We visited quite a few of our friendsโ family from the state. Thankfully most of them are safe.

In December 2002, my parents house was completely burnt to the ground. They barely escaped with the clothes on their backs. They lost everything, but their lives. It was one of our most terrifying experiences. Their house was our central point. We met there every Sunday for lunch after church. That Sunday was no different. We all lost a piece of ourselves when their house burnt. It took an instant for lifetime keepsakes to be destroyed. It hurt. Can we empathize or sympathize with those whoโve everything, including family members during this storm? Does it matter what side of the isle, they sit?

Weโve been told to โto weep with those who weepโ. Weโve not been told to take sides, nor to rejoice in the calamity of others. The Word of God does not negotiate, and every word is perfect. People matter more to the Lord than our causes. People should matter more to us than our movements and crusades. Arenโt we glad, we matter to the Lord? Where would we be if our inquiry was counted against us?

We should be different from the world, right? How thankful I am that Heโs still working on me! Loving people isnโt always easy, but thatโs the Lordโs standard. Do we dare lower the bare?

Share some of your more frightening experiences. How did you overcome them? Did you have friends or family who stand with you?

Absolutely!!! And that is the good news, that Father God is not counting our sins against us. May we always live this out in practice, by the grace and in the love of God. For we are ambassadors of this good news. Blessed be God forever.

It is a tragedy that so many perished, and so much was lost during Hurricane Helene. May we reach out with love, support, and prayers; prayers for provision, comfort, and peace. ๐บ

My most frightening experience was when my father was badly burned in a fire at work. He was in the burn unit of Duke University Hospital for over a year. When I finally got to see him (I was about five at the time), I was terrified of my daddy. His face and arms and hands were wrapped up like a mummy and all I could see were his eyes and lips. I remember screaming and my fatherโs calm voice said, โItโs me, honey. Itโs daddy. I just have big bandaids.โ It took a lot of coaxing but I finally got close enough to touch and talk to him. He had tears in his eyes when I was so afraid of him. Third degree burns over 50% of his body; I know now that he was blessed to survive, but I was scared when my grandparents told me my daddy was hurt bad at work and more scared when I finally saw him.

Called to be in the world but not of it. Called to model faith and service. Called to comfort others.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
It is an opportunity for us to personify Christ for others to understand agape.

So tragic to see the devastation. I am thankful for ministries like Samaritan’s Purse that will provide emergency help while also sharing the love of Jesus
