Hey friends, how are you today? I love the sounds of the birds and the squirrels in the early mornings. Who gets more space near the window is always a battle fought between Jazz and me. She rarely leaves any space for my coffee cup when she decides to stretch her entire body across the sill; I think she does it deliberately, perhaps she thinks I will eventually give up and leave the space to her. Hopefully, she knows better than that! After all, I have been told that I can be quite stubborn at times. Do you have any pets?
It’s another beautiful day in my neighborhood. Although the clouds are quite thick and heavy, because rain is in the forecast, pops of the blue-sky filters through to offer beautiful skylines through the thinning trees. I do love days like these; it is still warm for October. We began the day with 66° this morning and our high will be a wonderful 77°. Thank You, Lord! Even for the rain, I will be thankful today.
I have found I am more thankful and more grateful when I intentionally choose to be. Today I choose to appreciate the fact that this time of the year, our average temperature is 62°, but today, the Lord has blessed us with a beautiful, rainy 77°.
As a child, I always found it difficult to list the things for which I was grateful. Until recently, I found that I either lived in the future or what I term the ‘wait mode’ (waiting for prayers to be answered) or I continuously relived the past. Most of which I was thankful for, occurred so far back that I had to ask myself, “has the Lord not done anything for you, since then?” Uhhh Lord do forgive me.
I have since learnt that the Lord gave His life for me, so I that I can have ‘abundant life’. Abundant life is a life lived one day at a time. Pray for the desires, needs, wants, and appreciate the past, but live in the present. Live in this moment and this moment is best lived with a heart that is grateful for today. Grateful for the colors of the leaves during this time of the year, grateful for the above average temperatures, grateful for sounds of the birds and the squirrels. Grateful for my family, for my wonderful, amazing, handsome husband and beautiful daughters. Grateful that my mom could visit after an absence of over six years. Grateful that I’m still here to be grateful.
A grateful heart puts the disasters into perspective. It allows me to ‘see’ the strength and might and power of my God. I am reminded that He is more than able to conquer my fears, to subdue all that may cause me to be frightened. I know He is good when I proclaim how thankful I am for His today’s blessings.
How are you today? What are you thankful for today?
