THIS IS NOT THE END

Hey friends, how are you today, on this beautiful Good Friday? Today in my neck of the woods, the skies are blue, the sun is out in all its glory, there is snow on the ground and our temperature at this time, is a mere 29° with winds at 17mph, and so it feels a tad bit colder than the actual temperature.  Thankfully my reality is usually far removed from my feelings.  Because of the price paid by my Savior for my life, I am allowed to feel, but not be overwhelmed by my circumstances.  My feelings should always be placed in perspective because how I feel isn’t always an accurate view of my reality.

Today is Good Friday, though  many Christians may feel there was nothing ‘good’ about this day a few thousand years ago.  Many see the betrayal of Judas, the denial of Peter, the mocking of the crowd, the beatings of the soldiers.  We remember the desperate cries of our Lord to ‘take this cup from me’.  We recall the acceptance of the cross in His Words, “not My will, but Thine be done”.  We see, in our minds’ eye, our Lord’s final moments and listen as He says, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do”.

I choose joy on this day because I know the full story.  My Lord chose this path before time began.  Even before the first man was created, this plan was already written. It was the only way for my salvation.  And how thankful I am that I am saved.  I am saved because of the cross. Eternal life is mine, peace is mine, joy is mine, beauty is mine all because of the death, burial and resurrection of the Son, Who is God. No need to mourn because He lives!

I know that death does not inspire joy, but in this case resurrection cannot take place without it. It was the very necessary chain reaction which made my salvation possible. One could not go on without the other, you see, all three had to happen.

Happy Good Friday, friends, how are you doing? What are your feelings about Good Friday?  Are you a ‘Good’ or Not so Good’ Friday believer? Which are you and why?

  1. We know the big picture so we can rejoice in the pieces that happened along the way because they all lead to victory as Jesus resurrected and defeated sin and death!! Praise Him!

  2. “resurrection cannot take place without it [death].” As Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” John 12:24 And salvation could not take place without an unblemished sacrifice to take my place.

  3. I’m thankful for Christ’s sacrifice for us sinners. As I remember his terrible betrayal and suffering, I also celebrate his body given and blood shed for me on this Good Friday.

  4. What we call Good Friday is a reminder that God works all things out for our good and his glory. I can and do rejoice in what my Lord did for me at the same time I feel sorrow it took such a price.
