CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET?

Hey friends, how are you doing today? Guess what? Although we are nearing the end of November, today in my neck of the woods, it will be a fabulous 62°.  62°! In November! Usually, this time of the year brings cold as well as snow.  But guess what we do not have today? Yep, you guessed correctly.  We do not have snow and we do not have cold, praise the Lord!

I love the autumn season.  The beauty found in the variety of colors on the trees, even the cooler temperatures and the shorter days; I love it all.  Even after the colors fade and the leaves make their way to the ground, beauty is still something to behold.  I call them my scary trees.  On a moonlit night, these trees can cast an ominous shadow, that can be frightening. The branches, when they creak against each other, because they no longer have the buffering of the leaves can instill fear, at times, especially at night.  Sounds like a horror movie, doesn’t it?

The truth is these trees can’t hurt us, can they? As a matter of fact, whatever secrets they may have hidden away in their leaves are now out in the open for everyone to see.   They are bare, empty, every broken or crooked branch is on display. Stripped of their leaves, they can no longer hide themselves, nor can they keep the secrets of their furry or feathery friends safe.

I know a secret keeper.  In fact, I know the Secret Keeper.   When I was younger, I would tell my secrets to my friends and remind them to keep my secrets safe, except very rarely did that ever happen.  Before the week was out, my secret would be all over the playground and all over the neighborhood. I learnt to keep my secrets if I didn’t want it known but there are days when I do want to share my secrets and I know the name of the perfect Secret Keeper.  He keeps every secret every told, He never tells another soul, when you share that secret.  It is just between the two of us; me and my wonderful God.   Sometimes, there is a human secret keeper, my husband makes a fabulous secret keeper, but there is something rather unique about the Secret Keeper.

Well… I don’t know how to say this, but He already knows what I want to tell Him anyway. Truthfully, no secrets are hidden from Him, He already knows it all.   And even more wonderful, He can also do something about the secrets.  If it needs a solution, He provides it, if I just need a listener, He is the Listener; no interruptions while I’m speaking.  I can get everything off my chest and He just listens.  I love my Secret Keeper. Have your secret keepers disappointed you in the past? I recommend mine; His name is Jesus.

Do you need to tell a secret? Can you keep a secret? Has someone filled your secrets in the past?

  1. There is no one who can keep us like God. I love the intimacy of this post. Today was a day where I just sat with God. My soul was refreshed. Thank you for this timely reminder. I can keep a secret and I have people in my life I trust with my secrets. I have been betrayed but God has shown me the beauty of forgiving and moving on.

  2. The pics are beautiful. I love the bare branches when there is snow on the ground. Especially if I can just stay inside and admire them from my easy chair with a warm cup of coffee. Never thought of them as scary. New thought.

  3. Brenda, I don’t know what I’d do without my secret keeper. What a beautiful post as always. And we are experiencing warmer weather here in MO (although it’s going to be short-lived). We see the same views with the trees and hold the same love for Jesus in our hearts. God bless you! xoxo

  4. I love the way you introduced your post, about trees and their secrets revealed without their leaf coverings. I think there’s a lot more to dig out of that imagery. I do enjoy looking at the trees’ secrets in the fall and winter: the birds’ nests, tree structure, and the whole vista available to me out my window now that I can see through them.
Ah, secrets, and the Secret Keeper. Isn’t our quiet time with our Lord something extra special, in that He loves to listen, He is completely trustworthy, He knows what we’re going to say before we even know it ourselves, and He loves us fully all the time.
Thank you for a comforting reflection.
