EIGHT ACTIVITIES TO DO DURING THIS TIME

Hey friends, how are you doing? Can you guess our temperature today? Can you? Can you? Todayโ€™s high temperature is a beautiful 75ยฐ. It is cloudy with rain and a chance of thunderstorms, but who cares? It is absolutely wonderful; spring, here we come.ย ย There is an old saying that goesโ€ฆโ€you never miss the water, until the well runs dryโ€ which reminds me of all the times, I complained about the heat, during the summer.ย ย Welcome to the first full day of spring.ย ย

I love this time of the year. I look forward to the visiting birds on the way to their homelands and those returning from their home away from home.ย ย Jazz, our cat canโ€™t wait for warmer weather, if she had hands, the windows would already be open to let in the fresh air.ย ย Too soon, she will be vying for space near my window, but itโ€™s ok, I am willing to share my spaceย ย with her.ย

this is our daily ritual, playtime begins when I make the bed

But enough about me; how are you doing? Most of us are in the midst of exercising social distancing.  Schools and some churches have all closed their doors in order to safeguard the health of their students and congregation.  Most businesses have cut the staff in half while others have closed altogether, even our mall have closed, (ahhhh, the horror!). Who knew this would be part of our story, when we began the year? So many plans, so many goals; all about to evaporate into thin air.  But Godโ€ฆ.  So much time on our hands.   What are we to do? Here are 10 activities that can be done during this time of social distancing.

Clean! Clean! Clean! Spring is here and with it also came this unwanted virus. Use this time to deep clean (if you can find any cleaning supplies in the stores, that is, but maybe you can make your own (google it, Iโ€™m sure thereโ€™s a recipe out there).ย ย I love scent of fresh lemonย ย floors and windows.ย ย Get all hands-on deck, good music and get set; ready; GO!ย

Declutter your space! Combine the two, clean and declutter.ย ย Although, this may take much longer, but whoโ€™s counting? Weโ€™ve got time on our hands; days, weeks maybe even months of time on our hands.ย ย

Re-organize; this time of the year invites us to change the curtains, rearrange the furniture.ย ย Reorganize the pantry and the closet spaces, those cupboards, youโ€™ve always meant to clean, but never had the opportunity. Well, guess what? Weโ€™ve got time.ย

Or you can do quite the opposite. Get on that recliner, have that cup of coffee with that book, youโ€™ve always wanted to read, but havenโ€™t had the chance.ย ย Remember, thereโ€™s no gym to get to, no after school programs, no sporting activities for the kids.ย ย Just you and that good book. I suggest โ€˜Trust God to Write Your Storyโ€™, by Robert and Nancy Wolgemuth. I highly recommend; itโ€™s very appropriate for โ€˜such a time as thisโ€™.ย ย

Solitary walks are good.ย ย If youโ€™re healthy, go outside, into the wild and breathe in the fresh air.ย ย Of course, we need to avoid large groups of people, but still we must be smart and maintain our safety.ย ย Stay in the neighborhood or close to it.ย

Try that new recipe or learn to cook!ย ย Now that most restaurants are closed, what are the choices? Take out is expensive, itโ€™s ok, we have the time to perfect that experiment.ย ย

Learn a new hobby; lean to paint, or crochet.ย ย Knit that new pattern or begin that book, youโ€™ve always wanted to write.ย ย Become a brilliant photographer or jewel maker. The sky is the limit, remember youโ€™ve got time.ย ย

FaceTime, WhatsApp those friends, youโ€™ve always wanted to call.ย ย This is the perfect time to keep in touch with our lost friends and reignite relationships, without getting too close. Now we have no excuse; we can talk to each other, without getting too โ€˜closeโ€™โ€ฆ perfect!ย

What are some things you canโ€™t wait to tackle during this quarantine?ย

  1. Brenda,
I enjoyed seeing your pictures, and thanks for the suggestions.
My lifestyle hasn’t changed much. I work at a store which has a grocery in it, so my workplace is still open. Having a strong tendency toward introversion is proving a great advantage right now, because I can be happy staying at home, either reading, writing, doing online writing classes, or attending church online. I don’t need to be out a lot among people to be content. I’m not in the habit of eating out or going to the movies. God is helping me avoid fear and panic, which only makes things worse.

    • I definitely know that feeling of fear and panic, but I am choosing to trust the Lord during this time and like you ๐Ÿ™‚ I enjoy my own company, so this time is my happy time ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ everything I like to do, without feeling guilty

  2. Now that I have time, I’m building up my e-mail campaign for my fiction writing platform. I’m also catching up on blogging ๐Ÿ™‚ Believe it or not, I’m also learning to cook with the food I have in the house!

  3. Yes, let’s make good use of this time and do some things we didn’t have much time to enjoy before.
I am reading, baking, and enjoying some time outside noticing all the Spring awakening.

  4. I’m also on the decluttering/organizing bandwagon. Worked on some files today. Somebody said, “Order contributes to inner calm.” Now may be a more appropriate time for organizing than ever!

  5. Great suggestions Brenda! We are in our Autumn here in Australia, enjoying the autumn colors & weather outdoors is a great one.

Although now you’ve reminded me, I do have some cupboards that need a clean out & reorganize! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m actually enjoying time out from the pressure of having to do, it’s peaceful to BE, just being with the Lord! Bliss ๐Ÿ˜€
    Bless you,
    Jennifer

  6. We are just reaching our high temp today of 26 whole degrees. We still have ice and snow on the ground after our blizzard yesterday. BUT the sun is shining, and everything is brilliant. Happy Spring.
I’m with you on the cleaning and de-cluttering ideas. I hope we get a lot of that done. It’s a slippery slope: once I start reclining, it’s easier to continue. The less I do, the easier it gets to do less. My husband is a good spark plug, though. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  7. My goal was to declutter and organize this year so this staying home business really helps. And I’m still deciding beyond that. Thanks for this post.
