CAN WE TRUST THEM?…

Greetings my friends and family, how are you today? How was your week? My week was productive, thank you for asking.  I began (again) my exercise regime. It’s difficult for me, to exercise during the winter.  I really dislike the treadmill, although I do also have a stationary bike. But running is my jam; I feel invincible when I run, I think the music I listen to certainly cultivates that delusional thinking, but I like it.  Of course, the girls left on Sunday, so I’ve had to readjust and embrace the silence (although I did look forward to it; shhhh… we won’t tell them I said that, might hurt their feelings).  I have to wash my hair; I hate to wash my hair; did I say that out loud? Oops! 

The weather in my neck of the woods has been very indecisive, this week; I can totally relate.  At the beginning of the week, our temperatures were in the 40°s.  Mid-week arrived with about 5 inches of snow and 24°.  Today, it is raining, and the temperature is back in the 40°s.  This is so very unusual for our neck of the woods, so much so, that even the trees and the birds are confused.  I know the snow lodges around are definitely not at all happy with this weather.  But guess what? I am totally fine, as a matter of fact, I went ahead and glanced at the forecasted temperatures all the way into March and they promised, the weather just gets better and better.  

This was Wednesday and it got progressively worse throughout the day

Ahhh, but if only we could trust their word, right? I mean really, who could see that far into the future? I know it is merely a supposition, but will I put away my winter gear, just yet?  Last winter, the meteorologists promised an unusually mild winter, but chile… January and February helped us forget all that mildness which occurred in December.  Nope, I’m taking this winter, one day at a time.  

It’s easy to place our hope in man or man-made things, at times. We really did not intend to, it just happened. To most of us, Christians, a lot ‘just happens’ in our lives, doesn’t it? I’m reminded of the story of Peter, as he walked on the water to the Lord Jesus.  As long as his eyes were fixed on the Lord, he was able to walk on the water, in spite of the waves crashing beside him.  But the moment he took his eyes off the Lord, he saw the waves.  Fear became his enemy, he lost sight of his Hope, and he began to sink. Sufficient for today, right? One day at a time.  Our Father waits with forgiveness, mercy and grace in His hands.  Let’s live life intentionally, with our eyes fixed on the Savior. Let’s remember we have an enemy; let’s remember most times, we are our own enemy.  But when we do falter and begin to sink, let’s hold our hands up in surrender.

  2. Very encouraging message. My daughter has been in hospital for 6 days today. With God’s Grace she will be discharged tomorrow. Her board exams for her final year in school is coming up end of this month, but she has been in and out of hospital from last month and is not healthy enough at present to put in the effort necessary to obtain good grades. She has a lot of hopes and ambitions for her career, but her grades will decide her university admissions.

    We have decided to stop worrying about this aspect and leave it to God to take us through one day at a time.

  3. One day at a time! Good word, and so important. My family and I are raising support to plant churches in Spain and we have learned to cling to this very thing. It’s funny when you think about it, if I can’t tell you what I’ll be doing this weekend (with any real certainty) then what makes me think I can (or should) worry about what’s further down the road? The best thing I know to do is to seek his face, hold on to his promise to be with me, and do what has been plainly set before me.

  4. Amen! Wonderful word for the day. Trusting in God! Keeping our eyes on Him. Many, many years I did not. I now (and prayerfully never stop) keep my eyes on Him in all things. With reading, praying, praising, singing. Then, to remember Him throughout the day, I look at all the physical things that represent God, His people, His provisions, the guarding against the enemy. Whether it be a weapon on my right side (the sword of the Spirit) to a strong belt along my waist (girding my loins), warm socks and combat boots (feet shod with the Gospel of Christ), my bra LOLOL the breastplate of righteousness, a ballcap or a warm hat… the helmet of salvation. My physical Bible, the shield. A shower, the cleansing, by His forgiveness of my sin, my food, the Word of God, my water, the Water of Life… etc!

  6. I’m so glad His mercies are new every morning. I think His grace must be, too! Sometimes I feel I’m in a time warp, like, how are we already in 2020??
    We had freezing rain Friday. My husband fell but didn’t break anything. Then it got warmer and we had rain-rain. Then the temps dropped into the teens. We still have patches of ice here and there.

In my book Faithwalkers: How to Survive in the Desert of Hopelessness I dedicated an entire chapter to Peter. “When walking on your seas of trouble never lose focus of the Word. Keep your eyes on what God is doing, and your mind on what He has already done.” Thanks for the reminder. Be and stay blessed.

  12. Thanks for reminding us of the story of Peter. We can definitely become distracted by what’s going on around us that we take our eyes off of God and what he has promised and that’s when the sinking begin; the worrying, the stressing, the fear and hopelessness. Our weather is pretty weird around here too. It’s 70 degrees in January🤨 Thanks again for sharing and for reminding us to keep our focus on God❤

  14. This made me a bit teary, thank you for this reminder. ❤ I’m making my way back to God as I took my eyes off of Him in the midst of my fear and chaos that surrounded us for the past year. “One day at a time” has been my mantra throughout this fertility cycle, so this hit home. xx

  15. We’ve had a roller coaster weather season as well. Tonight in the 30s and 80 later this week! I ran yesterday in shorts, today in tights! Great post. Thank you for sharing God’s word.

  17. Winter has arrived in the plains of Oklahoma! My favorite day of the year is the first day of winter because it’s the shortest day of the year, meaning every day after that, the days get longer! I agree that treadmills aren’t as much fun as running outside!

  24. I like your video of the snow. It’s doing that right here, right now. On top of the 14″ that hasn’t melted yet.
    And the picture at the top — those shoes! Do you really walk in them, or just pose? I would fall flat on my face. 😁 I gotta say, though, you’re looking good.

  25. We just got cleaned up from the last ice storm and the prediction for this weekend is 1/2″ more ice! Yikes! Please Lord! I’m asking that the weather is not as bad as predicted. Our weather here has been unusual too. Up and down, back and forth.

  26. Amen Brenda! Reminds me of an old praise song that goes, “If I keep my eyes on Jesus, I can walk on water.” We were having weather in the 60s for a few days, which was really nice. It’s always great to get warm weather in the winter! 🙂 I like your cool hairstyles too! God bless!
