LET ME TELL YOU WHY

Hey friends, how are you today? How was your week? What is your weather like, in your neck of the woods?  The past few days have been simply gorgeous. Although a bit chilly to start off the day, the temperature rose to mid-40° throughout the day, which is my kind of day.  And guess what? Today’s temperature is supposedly going to be a beautiful, bright, sunny, warm 56°. Thank You, Father! I love days like these; days that remind me to be thankful that for warm temperatures and sunshine.

Isn’t it surprising and perhaps a bit disappointing that it usually takes temperatures falling to the 20°(s) to appreciate the 30°(s) and never mind the 40°(s); it’s a heatwave! Does it take ‘not having’ to appreciate and be thankful for ‘having’? On Sunday, our church gave away turkeys and instead of being thankful, someone wondered why they were not also given food to go with the turkey.  Ungratefulness is never a good look, is it? Yet, how many times do I go before the Lord with my list of desires and wants without saying ‘thank You’?  Why is saying ‘thank You’ so very important? Gratitude is good for the hearer and it’s also beneficial to one who says the words. 

Why are the words so important? 

It reminds us of the goodness of others

It reminds us of our blessings

It gives us hope 

It encourages others to keep giving

It makes people feel good 

Thankfulness should always be a daily practice, especially to our Lord, He is the best Benefactor around.  My God is always good, and He always does good.  He has been very good me; He has blessed me beyond measure.  As we get ready to celebrate thanksgiving this week, I am most grateful to our Lord:

For His precious Word

For salvation

For His presence 

For grace, mercy and His everlasting faithfulness

For His forgiveness which goes on and on 

I am also thankful for:

My wonderful husband, the best man in all the earth (according to me).  He is my confidante and friend and my favorite fixer-upper.  

My favorite girls; my precious, precious gifts from God.  

My sisters and brother; always there, always ready to listen 

My mom; I can always hear the smile in voice, whenever she talks to me 

My extended family; every cousin, every aunt, uncle, niece, nephew

My friends; located all over the world

My church family; love my church, they encourage and motivate me to keep serving the Lord.  

You; every single one you.  You bring me joy when you like, comment and also follow the blog 

The list can go on and on, but I want to leave space for you. Tell me what you are most thankful for as we approach this coming week.

  3. Thank you my sister for sharing such heart warming devotion and reminding me to be thankful always. Indeed there is always something to be thankful for. I am thankful that God is good and his love is inexhaustible, beyond decay, and never ending.

  7. Shalom! Beautifully intimate and inspiring post, sis. May He continue using you. I don’t celebrate the traditional thanksgiving with turkey and whatnot. But Thanksgiving is a continual commandment from YAHUAH and as My Master says, so will i do.

  8. Mike and I are most grateful for the forgiveness and acceptance the Lord has for us and His gift of eternal life! I (Elfriede) try to list specifically in my prayers/talks with the Lord what I am thankful for. It makes it more meaningful and keeps me humble because every good thing come from the Lord!   11. There really is so much to be thankful for. We had warm weather here today and I didn’t even enjoy it because we’ve been trying to get our house ready to sell. I think I need to pause a bit and thank God for what we do have! Have a great Thanksgiving

  19. Happy Thanksgiving! Gratitude is a product of our focus. There’s always something to be thankful for, but we have to consistently make the effort to ponder on what’s going well, rather than what’s not going well.

    I’m grateful for my family, for many reasons!

  21. You and me, Brenda! I wrote a post on gratefulness and scheduled it to go up tomorrow. God has given us similar gratefulness; I love the way you write to us as friends and sisters.
    I am grateful that we left yesterday instead of tomorrow to visit my parents. Big winter storm today (after a 62 degree weekend!) and tomorrow. So we got here safely and get to spend a bit more time with my mom and dad, who are such blessings to us.

    • around this time year 40 degrees is heatwave 🙂 🙂 our temperatures just keep falling from there. Over here we are thankful for 40 degrees 🙂 🙂 Send me some warmth is a bottle 🙂 🙂 I was not ready for the ‘cold spell’ 🙂 🙂

      • Proof that God has a sense of humor, it is now in the 40s here in California and raining! Just like that, we have gone from warm spring weather to winter. I am freezing, but I can see how such temperatures might seem warm if you are accustomed to much cooler weather.

        The coldest I’ve ever been was in New York City in December years ago — temperatures were in the upper teens with wind, and even the locals said it was cold. It was then I realized that I generally wear coats and scarves in California out of choice —- there, it was like putting on armor for battle, and such gear is a matter of necessity, not choice.

        Then I was in Minneapolis one time, and temps were in the 20s. People were wearing light windbreakers, no gloves or hats, and pleasantly decreed such weather “brisk”.

        I hope you are enjoying your warm spell. 😀
