HAPPY NEW YEAR! OK, I’M LATE, BUT…

Hey friends, how are you today? How was your week? I completed 3.2 miles, while running out in our neighborhood, yesterday and it felt good.Β Although spring is here, our neck of the woods did not get that memo.Β Β Our temperatures have been struggling to get out of the 30s and yesterday was the first 50Β°, in over a week.Β Β I love running as my form of exercise, preferably outside.Β Β Believe it or not, I cover more distance on the pavement, actually the sidewalk, since my music is often pounding in my ears, than I do on a treadmill.Β Β What do you as your form of exercise? I know Jennifer over at Tea with Jennifer enjoys walking.Β Β

Can you believe March is almost at its end? We are already three months into 2019.Β Β I must admit, the past three months have for most part, left me behind.Β Β I can’t seem to catch up, sometimes I feel stuck in 2018.Β Where has the time gone? Part of this quagmire is the fact that I started working five days, thirty hours each week.Β Β Because I leave for work mid morning, I have a list of chores, I try to ensure is done before I leave.Β Β I tried to enjoy the weekend, but lately my weekends have all been busy too. Have I told you before I struggle with balance? Yep, I did here.Β Β I do enjoy going to work and I also take pleasure in the job I do, but time has become so very limited.Β Β

Having a job hastened my desire for spring so that I could spend more time outdoors. Now there’s outdoors and then there’s OUTDOORS! I do outdoors; I don’t do tent camping or sleeping under the stars. I need a solid roof and four heavy duty walls and indoor plumbing and electricity; well, you get the drift. I enjoy nature, but I need nature to stay outside!  We enjoy hiking, running, and strolling through nature, we enjoy campfires too, but when it’s time for bed, we go inside.  Yes, yes, I am quite aware that safety is not the absence of danger, but rather the presence of God, but why take chances?

Taking the time to admire God’s creation reminds me slow down, because if I don’t, I just may miss the blessings.  I don’t want to miss the Lord’s blessings; they are brand new, tailored just me, each day.  How has the past three months treated you? Or perhaps a better question should be; how have you treated the past three months? Join me on intentionally slowing down to appreciate each new day, to see the beauty in each day, to realize that every day is a gift from the Lord.

Here are a few activities I intend to do to reactivate my 2019

https://becominghistapestry.com
  1. Keep a journal with my devotion. I have already started with this but haven’t been consistent. This is me becoming more consistent with journaling.Β
  2. Spend a few minutes outdoors, every day.Β Β Rain, sunshine, sleet, hail nor snow will keep me away.Β Well actually, my hair absolutely hates getting wet, if it’s not being washed. Yep, let’s blame the hair, we may need to observe nature on the inside, during the downpours.Β Β
  3. Take leisurely walks with the intention of photographing nature.Β Β That’s my favorite activity, love capturing images of God’s creation in film.Β
  4. Talk to strangers. Need I say more?Β
  5. Go spring shopping. Actually, in my case, I have been shopping… in my defense, I am working five days a week now, right? Thrift haul may be coming soon…
  6. Read a totally fictitious book or fashion and style magazine. Love those, they inspire the dressing styles, which inspire the shopping.Β Β Β Fun times are coming….

  1. I only saw one bear while I was out running. My dog saw it first and barked as it ran off. That was when I decided to buy a can of bear spray and a running holster for it. Easier than running with a gun. πŸ™‚

  2. Running outdoors is my favorite form of exercise, too. I mix it up with walking for a satisfying HIIT workout. Where I live, in a small community in BC surrounded by wilderness, there is need to bring a dog and a can of bear spray on my outings. Safety first!

  3. Great activity ideas Brenda!!! I’m looking forward to May as our peach and cherry trees (in the backyard) blossom during that time…I never want to busy myself too much and miss that beautiful display of God’s creations!!

  4. I totally agree – I love nature but my idea of camping is a room at Holiday Inn. I am starting 2019 off with getting cataracts removed from both my eyes. Had one already done and will have the other next week. With the result from the first one I can’t wait to get the second one. The colors are all so brilliant and I am looking forward to seeing spring with new eyes. I love the idea of journaling with my devotion. I have done that for years and it is great to look back and see the treasures I found in God’s Word before and enjoy them again.

  5. Our neck of the woods didn’t get the springtime memo either! That’s a great list Brenda! I love spending time in nature for the same reason, it’s marvellous to behold God’s creation and capture it in photos! My post today is walking in the forest behind our house. We are very blessed to have a nature trail.

    Blessings! πŸ™‚

  6. I love your list of activities for 2019, and I share your feelings for β€œoutdoorsy-ness” πŸ˜†. I love to journal, and like you, I don’t do it everyday. I love to keep a journal for prayer requests also. Then I go back and highlight the request when God answers it and put the date and maybe make a little note. I love to flip back through those journals because it reminds me of God’s goodness and that He does listen to my prayers. Thank you for your post and have a blessed week!

    • πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ yep we enjoy nature, but when it’s time to sleep, we need the extra protection ❀️❀️ I love my prayer journals, it helps me to keep track of the goodness and faithfulness of God. But I haven’t been very consistent, I really do want to do better

  7. I enjoyed your photos, especially the one of the great blue heron. One year I saw one standing in the little creek near us. We don’t often see one, so that was a treat. The crocuses here are blooming, so we are enjoying those. I find I need to spend at least 20 minutes a day outside (the longer, the better). I feel closer to God then, and find joy in seeing the birds, squirrels, and flowers. Although I know that, I haven’t been doing it nearly enough, partly due to health issues. I’m looking forward to getting outside more often.

  8. I went in the car today and COULD ACTUALLY SEE the road, lol. I am hoping, praying, crossing fingers, etc. that the snow storms are done for the year. I would love to get outside more…still too much snow and ice at the moment though. It was almost 40 degrees today so heading in the right direction…I hope!! God Bless and enjoy the warmer weather!

  9. I love your photos! Even the not-outside ones. Funny such an intrinsic joy can be found in photography; I think the challenge that goes along with it is part of it, as well as the beautiful results.
You inspire me to resume journaling in my prayer notebook. We keep a daily calendar/book journal, just to jot notes about what happened each day, and a separate medical journal (as we age, we refer to them more and more). But I used to write diligently in my prayer journal, and it was good.

  10. Great post! Love your ideas especially the shopping lol πŸ˜‚ Years ago the Lord just challenged me to just simply smile at people everywhere I went. A smile and a kind word or compliment can change someone’s day….of course that’s not just a spring thing.
I love journaling. God bless you sweetieπŸ€—

  11. I love spring too and can’t wait until the weather here is consistently warm. This is our season since we were born in spring (birthday twin!).I’m looking to start going back to work part-time as well. I have a few interviews lined up next week and pray that God leads me to the right position.

  12. I can’t exercise because of my surgery last week, but normally, I do cardio chair boxing. I have arthritis in my knees to exercises that use them a lot are not possible. I love your ideas for spring! I already read about 200 fiction books a year, so I have that covered. I also write in two journals. One is a prayer journal and one a regular journal in which I write a letter to God. I enjoy going to bookstores and garden centers…my favorite things are there!

      • I’m a bookworm, Brenda, because I have been sickly since I was a child. Not being able to be physically active led me to seek solace in books…and then in the Lord.

  13. Ah! The ol’ ” I can’t seem to find enough hours in the day “… I run into that very thing too. Though…I’m hoping those moments are few & far in between. When they do…after awhile the ol light bulbs lighten up my head and I’m reminded that when I’ve given God His due…I find myself pretty much completing all that I wish to achieve w/time left over. I feel less stressed, bent out of shape over…
I try my best to stop and smell the roses, gaze at God’s magnificent fireworks in the twilight. I smile each and every time I see that wonderful πŸŒ’ that gives us light that’s mentioned in Genesis.

  14. I love all six ideas for this spring! I too enjoy talking to strangers, being outside, shopping (not so easy anymore), journaling bible time, reading for fun…..yes! So much joy in doing the little things and enjoying those gifts from above! Wish we could go shopping Brenda, and I can’t wait to see pictures of your treasures when you do!! πŸ€—πŸ’–

  15. Amen, may we always rejoice and be glad in the day the Lord has made! I like to be outside too. We love going fishing, hiking, and camping in the mountains. You are wise to think about safety. We have had black bears come through our camp while we were in our tent. We have also encountered mountain lions. Of course that is the reality of camping in the Rockies. That’s why I pack a .45 when we head into the high country. πŸ™‚ We are so glad it is spring and we are ready for warmer weather! Please Lord, no more blizzards! πŸ™‚ God bless!
