HOW DO YOU KNOW FOR SURE?

Hey friends, how are you today? It is a gorgeous day.  The sun is out in all its glory and the beautiful warmth is no longer evaporating into the atmosphere, it can actually be felt now.  Thank You, Lord.   During the winter months, although the sun may bring emotional wellness, its sightings usually signified bitter, bitter cold. Can you hear the birds, as they flitter from tree to tree? They welcome each other back; they raucously tell their friends about their escapades while they were away.  I thought the kids had also gone south, but seemingly they were here all the time.  Of course, they have winter coats on today, but they are playing games outside. Spring is here! Longer days, beautiful weather, securing friendships, we have a lot to look forward to, because although spring is here, it is only 27° in my neck of the woods.

In a previous Awana book for the T&T (ers) [Truth & Training], the kids had to answer the question, “How do we know the Bible is true?” The book supplied several answers with key verses to support the answers, which they had to memorize.  A few of the answers and supporting verses given were; because it is the Word of God (Jeremiah 10:10(a) and people witnessed the events of the Bible (I Peter 1:16). There were eight answers with scriptures; they were great Awana books, which we used as part of our Homeschool Bible Study, when the girls were younger.

As a young teenager, I remember asking our pastor, a similar question, how do I know what I believe is the truth? How do you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a God? How do you know that what the Bible says about sin and salvation is true? How do you know for a fact? Is it because the Bible says so? (Churches should always create an atmosphere comfortable enough for young people to ask questions, such as these.  The questions are there, let them ask, then provide the answers. It’s unfortunate when they ask the wrong people theses questions.)

My friend found this great autobiography about Billy Graham. She was so fascinated, she read that book from cover to cover.  She absolutely loved the stories, shared by his wife and children, his friends and family, even the tidbits shared by Billy Graham himself.  She loved it enough that she shared it with me.  Although this book may have offered an insight into the man, do you think it was sufficient enough for her to say, she knew him? I don’t think so, she may now possess some knowledge about the man, but she certainly cannot say, she knows him.

The Lord has also given us His Word, which tells us what He needs us to know about Himself and about us.  He tells of His character and allows us to see that nature displayed throughout the lives of the people found in His Book.  He tells how the world was formed and how sin entered into the world and into the lives of man.  He showed us how detrimental sin is through the actions of people.  We read about the Sacrifice that was paid in full for our sin and also the home that is being prepared for those who’ve accepted Christ as their Savior.  Some; perhaps most of us, have read this Book from cover to cover, but we know Him?

We’ve been told there is a queen in England. We’ve been told several things about this queen; her age, her husband’s name, her children and even the length of time, she has ruled.  Most of us has never and perhaps will never meet her.  Do we believe what we’ve been told?

We attend church every Sunday, most of us even attend services throughout the week.  We’ve been told quite a bit about the Lord.  We’ve been told about people from the Bible, such as Paul, Saul, Peter and Esther.  Is that sufficient information? Do we now believe what we’ve read and what we’ve been told? How do we know the Bible is true?

I know that that there is one God.  I know there is only one way to Him.  I know that this way is through His Son, Jesus Christ. I know that I am a sinner.  I know and I believe that I am saved.  I believe that the Bible is true, I believe that every Word of God is pure.  I know that because I have read the Bible and because I have been told.  I believe that because the God of the Universe has moved beyond the pages of scripture and has made Himself known to me. When I accepted His Son as my Savior, His Holy Spirit now resides in me and cements what I’ve read and what I’ve been told.   His relationship with me confirmed what I read and what I was told.  The more we walk together in unity, the more assured I am of the truths I read and hear.  As I daily read His Word and pray, I get to KNOW Him, I get to SEE Him work in my life, I EXPERIENCE the change.  How do you know, what you believe is true?

  1. After I believed and acted in faith, I began to see signs and wonders God promised would follow His believers happen in public. When I witness, I reference Mark chapter 11 when sharing some of what I have seen. It is actual evidence that God is real. What was written in the Holy Bible thousands of years before we were born was not a joke or a hoax. It is real and is taking place today!

    Thank you for sharing this post. I did try to like it too, but not entirely sure it worked.

  4. The only way that we can know God is from studying His word, accepting Him through faith and our own experience. What we learn in school is one aspect. What we learn from God is much different and more rewarding. Take care.

  5. I believe because He has revealed himself in nature, through the truth of His word, the revelation of Himself through Christ, the witness of others, the witness of His Holy Spiriit I His word and in me. God is true and He proves it.

  8. I love how you begin your blogs with describing what you hear and see in nature! I need to slow down and experience the richness of God’s Creation more! Loved this post, as I have had conversations with my youngest on “how do you know”. To me, this is the definition of faith and it brings me to Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. Thank you and have a blessed week 🙌🏻

  9. Very good indeed! My kids have asked me if God is real and my 7 years old have written a letter to God asking if He is real. I agree with creating that environment for kids to ask questions. And I use similar analogy you used to explain to them. You did a great job with this sis❤️

The hymn taken from 2 Tim 1.12 has been ringing in my head all day; in fact, I sang it with my reading group ladies this afternoon. “For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day!” Your post put that hymn right back in my head. 😊
    And, such a good point about churches making the environment comfortable for questions – for adults and children!

  14. Love this. What do you tell the kids nowadays when they ask you how you know He’s real? I can only share my own personal experiences. I can give you all the Bible verses in the world, but when they don’t know if they believe the Bible, that’s useless.

  15. I agree that churches should definitely create an environment where people can ask more questions and gain understanding. The new generation wants to know the “whys” and they are not being given answers so many of them are falling away from the church even though they were raised in church. Like you said, we get to know Him as we experience Him in our own lives through His Spirit and His Word.

  19. As a parent, I am definitely preparing for this question one day. Building a relationship takes time and trust, it is perfectly to ask God these same questions, and to ask Him to reveal Himself in a special way. Thanks for sharing. ❤

  20. Great post! Yet the great question remains for many…”how do we know for sure that the Bible (Christian) is true? The answers to thoughs questions are at the top of our 👃.
    *By the power of the Holy Spirit…that our sports are quickened. Without the quickening of man’s spirit we cannot know for sure.
    All other religions (including Christianity) are dead unless the Holy Spirit does a work in us. Knowledge is just that…knowledge… nothing more. SHALOM sister 😇

  22. There is more evidence to support the bible than there is for Homer’s Iliad yet people do not doubt the Iliad. There is supporting evidence for the resurrection yet people doubt it. I think about what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:18- For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
