YOU DO WELL, BUT I’LL DO EXCELLENT!

Good morning, my friends.  How are you today? I like asking this question, because I truly want to know.  How are you doing? Today is a beautiful, bright, sunny, 82° day.  It’s a perfect day for the NY State Fair, which is happening now in my city.  When the girls were little, there was no escaping this event. We HAD to go, but today, I remember the crowds, and the smells, and the crowds, and the congestion, and the crowds (did I already say the crowds?) and I think to myself, “Must I though, must I?”  Then I also remember the fun, and the laughter, and the new sights and I think to myself, “Huh, maybe I will”. Do you enjoy events like these, or do you attend for the sake of your kids? Prov 31 29That’s a good verse, isn’t it? I have been told I am very competitive. I think at the time, it was meant as a thing to avoid, but I considered it a compliment and said, “Thank you”.  I’ve learnt as I’ve grown older; as we all know, wisdom comes with age, or at least it should; people are not the standard.  They are not the measuring stick.  You, see, the standard of man is fickle; today, it’s this, but tomorrow it’s another. As soon, you become good at something, it switches to something else.  Who comes up with these rules anyway?prov 31 17 Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,; whatever the Lord has given you to do, friends, do it well.  We must give it our best! The Lord has given us great opportunities to be moms, friends, sisters, students, He has given us jobs and other responsibilities, and the standard is our personal best.  It’s too easy to allow social media to dictate the standard of the day; seemingly beautiful people living seemingly beautiful lives.  Believe me, friends, no one is free from problems, it’s inevitable! Do we desire their good and not their bad; their perfections, but not their imperfections? They go together; that’s the problem with envy, it wants the good, but not the bad.  2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, The Lord has given us all we need to be excellent in the things He has entrusted to us.  He did not leave us hanging.  While everyone else may be content in ‘doing good’, we are capable of excellence.  pro-31-30Verse 30 of Proverbs 31 tells how to excel; the woman who FEARS the LORD; SHE shall be praised.  This is the key to excellence; Fear the Lord! This ‘fear’ isn’t necessarily one of fright, but rather reverence; respect and honor the Lord.  We do this when we obey the Word of God.  We obey when we know what the Word of God says.  We know what the Word of God says, when we read the Word of God.  Shall we be excellent together?   3. I’m doing well today! Striving to focus every day on the many things I have to be grateful for and taking advantage of the opportunities God has given me. I want to be like the woman in Proverbs 31 who laughs at the days to come!

  9. Thanks for sharing this post. Sometimes I get drowned in the cycle of living and making a living that I forget to thank God for the blessing of being alive and having a job. Even if money is still tight, I should be thankful for His Providence.

  10. We need to be reminded often, to do it ALL as if we’re doing it for the Lord. Sometimes I do one thing for the Lord and the following thing for my kids, the next one for my husband and then I follow that up with something for someone else or myself, then I get back to the Lord…..oops.   12. Ahhh, the State fair, great memories and fun for us! We go as a family and enjoy the booths, animals, and Junk Food!! I love fresh kettle corn!!
    Enjoy this day that the Lord has made, crowds or not! 🙂

  13. Great post! To answer your question, yes, I find myself avoiding things now that I used to go to…for the same main reason: crowds, crowds and crowds. Once in a while I force myself to attend something anyway. Sometimes I’m glad I did, other times I wish I had stayed home. A lot of time I’d rather be reading a good book than fighting an unruly crown. =)
