WILL YOU LOVE ME TODAY?

Ps. 73 2I grew up in the church.  I do not think I have missed a total of 10 church services in my lifetime. I accepted Christ as my Savior at a very early age.  It’s hard when I compare my life with others to think there is anything wrong with me.  I can always find someone whose life ‘needs work’.  I am really not that bad, when I compare my life with someone else’s. After all I don’t do this nor do I do that, like this person.  I am a pretty good person in my humble opinion.  Of course I am not perfect, BUT… When I was younger, I focused quite a bit on what I did not do; you know the ‘big’ sins.  So maybe I disobeyed my parents and I may have lied and taken something that was not mine, but that’s small compared to what this person did.   Jer 17 9Comparison does one of two things; makes us think we are better than others or we may think we are worse than others.  The outcome depends on who we think we are compared to who we think they are.  The result is very rarely flattering or healthy; neither for us nor for others. It would be a lie to say Christians don’t do this.   Phil 4 8Throughout the Word of God, we are reminded again and again that people are not the standard.  Yet churches are fraught with bitter, discontented and angry people because of our jealousy and envy. We fail to love others because our eyes are fixed on the possessions or on the seemingly perfection of their lives.  Haven’t we lived long enough to know that no life here is perfect? Don’t we already know that no life is without trials and problems? Do we want the unknown problems of their lives along with whatever blessings they may seemingly have obtained? Will we take the good but not he bad?  james 2 10As a child, I didn’t understand the consequences of what I was doing.  I lived between wanting what someone else had or with the belief that I was better.  As an adult, after having gone through my own trials and tribulations and living through the problems of others, after obtaining my own possessions along the way, should I not already know that no one’s life is without issues?   With all that knowledge, why do I then still struggle?

Does my salvation mean so little to me that I fail to love others as Christ has demonstrated His love for me, because of their possessions? Love and envy are on opposite ends of the scales.  The two oppose each other.  I can’t envy you and love you at the same time.  There is only room for one in my life and right now I choose to love you. Today I choose to pray for you, because I know that trials are part of life and you are not without them. I choose to cherish the price that was paid for my sins. I choose to bask in the unfailing, unwavering love of Christ.  I choose to be contented with all that the Lord has blessed me.  I choose to name them one by one, because I am prone to forget, when my eyes slip.  I choose to say ‘thank You, Lord’ because Your work in me is not done.  I choose the Word of God as my standard, it equalizes every one. Let’s remind ourselves that people are not the standard! Today I commit to a loving you.  Will you love me today?

How can a mere ‘thank you’ for sufficient for your comments, likes and follows? You literally bring a smile to my face every time I read your comments.  I talk about you as if we’ve met.  Believe me when I say, I appreciate you.  Thank you.closing1brenda

  1. I enjoyed your blog! It is so true that many times we try to look like we’ve got it all together when inside things are falling apart. This is such a big problem in many churches today. Everyone wants to wear a mask, but to love with Christ’s love, to really love the unlovable, you are so right – we’ve got to be real. We have to shed the pretense, and love with agape love. Thank you for sharing this!😊

  2. Hi, saw you liked my blog post about my book Pardoned or Paroled? I love your tapestry theme. I love a similar line “we are his workmanship in Christ Jesus.” The word workmanship is poema in Greek, where we get our work poetry. So I say, we are his poetry.

  4. You’re so right, people are not the standard, Jehovah God is the standard. One of my favorite scriptures is Psalms 103:8-10 which says, “Jehovah is merciful and compassionate, Slow to anger and abundant in loyal love. He will not always find fault, Nor will he stay resentful forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins,Nor has he repaid us what our errors deserve.” Although we’re imperfect we are still required to put forth the effort to imitate Him. God is love and we should strive to be as well.

      • That’s true, too. We can be awfully finicky people, can’t we, wanting the gifts and talents that someone else has but not all the troubles that they had to go through to get where they are? That’s why I said I’d rather stick with my own problems; they were hard enough. Sometimes other people put on a beautiful mask, and you’d never know how much trouble they have faced, and even now may be facing. But if you do find out the difficulties of their story, you tell yourself, “I could never do that; I would just be too devastated. How did they even survive?”

  6. Life is full of “I choose” moments and often we waste them by thinking only of ourselves. Our choices must first focus on God and then wonderfully focus on others, and then amazingly, we find that our needs are met as well. thanks!

  7. Hi Brenda. Thank you so much for writing! You have a gift for words. I accepted the Lord but I still am prone to comparing myself to others. Sometimes I think I’m better than others in ability instead of thanking God for who He has made me to be by His grace. In that area I need humility. But then I compare myself to others and wonder why hasn’t God allowed this thing to happen in my life since I am following Him. You are so right Brenda. I must continually ask the Lord to define who I am rather than comparing my situations to that of others. Only Jesus can see the full picture.

  8. I can relate with some of the pictures painted here. I was a good kid, so everyone said. Though I gave my life to Christ early too, it took me some time to realise I was a sinner too just like everyone else.

    • 😂😂 the tangles are real with my hair 😂 but beauty over ‘good sense’. I love the opportunities provided at the linkups. It is so wonderful to come across like minded people. People who love the Lord, whose desire it is to serve Him. May the Lord be praised

  11. Brenda, you write such lovely feelings. This is a gentle and Godly reminder for me today, that God is my plumb line, it is He Who loves me perfectly, and it is His wishes that bring me perfect joy.

  12. It helps me to remember that every life I come in contact with is a truly loved and cherished child of his whom he created to be his. It gives me so much respect and love for everyone they are created how he designed. My job is to love.

  13. Another wonderful post Brenda. Thank you!

When prideful or envyous, it always helps me to remember Proverbs 16:18…

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Always thought it was Pride before a Fall..
    That’s Destruction!!!

Good to know Haughty is when we look down on others. Truly the beginnings of Pride.

    Bless you!
