CHANGE THAT ATTITUDE!

The word ‘attitude’ is bounced around a lot.  It is used quite often in phrases.  We have heard and I am sure we say things like, that attitude will be your downfall, or change that attitude, perhaps even more often as parents, I don’t like that attitude.  We also say such things as positive attitude or negative attitude. But what do we mean, when we use the word, attitude?  What are we talking about? Chuck Swindoll says, “We cannot change our past. We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. Wow!

Attitude is ‘a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person’s behavior’.  How are attitudes born, then? Well, glad you ask!

Our attitudes are shaped by our thoughts. But before our attitudes can be developed, our thoughts are being shaped by our beliefs.    Let us look at it this way… Our beliefs affect our thought life, our thoughts affect our attitudes. Our attitudes toward what we believe are shaping our actions.

BELIEFS ➡️ THOUGHTS➡️ ATTITUDES/BEHAVIOR ➡️ACTIONS

Attitude is not tangible; it shows itself in our actions. For example, when I react to situations with bickering or fighting or by becoming anxious, that is the result of hopefully, a temporary lapse of godly judgment.  My actions display where I am spiritually. My attitude directs my speech, it directs my actions.  Lamentations 3 22 23

How do I change my attitude?  Here are 6 steps to developing a godly attitude

I know, I know.  Whenever I see ‘steps to having a better…’ I’m like really?!  Does that really work? But these steps, I promise, will make a difference.

  1. SPEND time in the Word of God...Read and study the Bible for yourself.  Although I appreciate you taking the time to read this blog; blogs are not a substitute for the Bible.  II Timothy 3:16,17; Psalm 119:105; Joshua 1:8
  2. PRAY.. Talk to the Lord.  Believe it or not, the King of Kings wants to spend time with you. Ephesians 6:18; James 5:13
  3. OBEY the Word of God.  The scriptures are not negotiable, I’m afraid.  But the wonderful thing about our God is; He gives us new mercies every morning and His grace is sufficient for today. John 14:15; I Peter 1:14;
  4. SPEND time with godly people.  Someone once told me, Christians are hypocrites, to which I responded, ‘perhaps’. But imagine this, if Christians (people who have accepted Christ as their Savior) are not always sincere; can you really trust someone who does not know God at all? I don’t think so.  Take your chances with godly, mature men and women. I John 1:7; I Peter 1:22;
  5. ATTEND CHURCH  An unashamedly, doctrinally sound, gospel preaching church.  You were not meant to walk this path alone.  We need each other.  We encourage and exhort each other. Philippians 4:8; Hebrews 10:25
  6. SERVE in a ministry.  Believe it or not, we were saved to serve.  The Lord has given each person a special gift.  This gift is used to edify the church.  I Peter 4:10,11; Galatians 6:10

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have taken the time to follow the blog.  I am humbled by your comments and likes on the posts.  May the Lord be honored on this adventure.

Have a blessed day and remember: God’s love is unfailing, unwavering and unconditional.

Do you serve in a ministry at your church? What do you do? If not, why?

    Love this, Brenda. I have to continually remind myself of this. Would you mind if I used some of your blogs from time to time as guests blogs on my site? Would love for my readers to see your heart and insight. All of God’s blessings, Sister in Christ!

  2. Such healthy tips here! #3 is spot on! It’s not enough that we pray and read the Word, but we must obey what it says as well! So often I think we forget that part of the equation. Great post!

  3. Like my pastor says if someone says to you they don’t want to come to church because it’s full of hypocrites, answer back, “Well you’re welcome to come visit anytime, there’s always room for one more!”

  4. Wow! I loved reading this. Very inspiring yet very convicting as well lol I know I’m not the only one who got convicted reading this 😌 especially when you said “My actions show where I am Spiritually”. Wow! Very profound and very true. I always say that I can tell when I’m not close enough to the Lord because my thoughts and my actions show it! Thank you for this post!

  5. I so agree! Beliefs and thoughts are the roots of our attitudes and behaviors. That discovery has been so important in my walk with the Lord. Praise God that He can transform our thoughts and beliefs as we spend time in His Word!

  6. Yes yes yes!!! “Read the Bible for yourself!” I agree, secondhand faith is cheap. I’ve only been studying the Bible for less than a year and it has been a journey! It was really hard to understand in the beginning but with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and mature Christian friends, it’s been possible. Thank you for sharing those steps (they do work!). 🙏❤️

  7. “Attitude is not tangible; it shows itself in our actions.” <—– THIS! I talk to my kids about this exact concept all the time. If you want to change your behavior, you have to change your attitude… which means you change the way you think! Thanks for some practical tips here.

  10. Love this!! A prodigal daughter here, just returned to God after 13 years. Why do we fight His love? My heart is for young women and children. I’m helping out with the Sunday School. Feels good to be back and I’m following your blog, too!! 😊

  12. Wonderful thoughts! I really appreciate Swindoll’s teaching too. “You need an attitude adjustment” is a comment my kids know around here. They also know it is followed up with orders to go have their time alone with Jesus (part of our daily family routine) and ask Him to change their 💓. Mom too–I need my daily tune up too!

  13. The post I’m just finishing up with contains some of these same thoughts as I’ve been trying to encourage my son toward helping him reach a goal of his…but a positive attitude will need to be a top Godly character for him to succeed!
