WHO ARE YOU BECOMING?

We celebrated Women’s International day last week. According to Timeanddate.com International Women’s Day  is annually held on March 8 to celebrate  women’s achievemenets throughout history and across nations.   There are a few women who have been an inspiration to me, for various reasons, throughout the years.  Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, Pricilla Shirer, Mandissa, Blair Linne, Janet Parshall, Joni Erickson Tada (to just name a few) are admired for their stance on the Word of God.  Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou are admired for their courage. I admire Michelle Obama and Princess Kate for their fashion sense.

But what about our own achievements?  My mom is my hero.  She will take the clothes off her back to give to someone in need. My mom never refuses anyone help. She is hard working. Frugal is her middle name.  If she can’t afford something, she will make it herself.  She sees the good in most people. My mom is my superstar. prov 31 31

But there is someone else I want to emulate.  There is someone else I have been called to be; to become. Usually I just read over this verse, but recently it caught my attention. ‘Give her of the fruit of her hand’. What if she didn’t do so well, what does she get? ‘Give her of the fruit of her hands’, not her mother’s hand, or her sister’s hand, not even her friend’s hand.  ‘Give her of the fruit of her hands’, not one hand, but two.  What if she wasted her time? What if she didn’t use her time wisely? Will she reap nothing? ‘Let her OWN works praise her in the gates!’ What does that mean? John MacArthur says, “the result of all her efforts is her best eulogy”. What’s her commendation then? Should she be one who encourages her husband?  Perhaps she is trustworthy, she uses her time wisely. I am so sure she is ambitious and industrious.  She works diligently and is economical in her spending.  Maybe she plans her day, but holds these plans loosely, she prepares for the unexpected. I suppose it’s conceivable that she sees people and is always ready to help, she seeks nothing in return. It’s likely she serves her family well. She dresses well and takes pride in her appearance.  ‘Let her OWN works praise her in the gates’… her own works. She speaks wisely and kindly to others. She is known as an honorable woman, integrity becomes her.  But she knows the Key that unlocks her full potential.  She has a relationship with Him.  She spends time with Him and in His Word.  She fully submits to His authority and surrenders her control.  She accepts her need for the Lord. She realizes that this standard of living is beyond her natural self.

‘Give her of the fruit of her hands’, that’s a pretty scary verse, isn’t it? What if she does badly? What if she was mean? What If she lived life carelessly? What if she lived in her world, caring very little for those around her, in fact hardly noticing them? ‘Give her the fruit of her hands’.   Will she ‘reap then, what she sows’?

Wow! I had better remember that, Lord.  I can’t hide behind my family name, I can’t hide behind the works of my husband, or even that of my children.  What did I do with my time? Did I make it profitable? Did I serve my King well?  ‘Give her of the fruit of her hands,  And let her own works praise her in the gates’.. Let’s live life well.

  2. This certainly motivates me to do better in my daily life but also think carefully about overall actions and attitude towards others. I love your writing and I’m so glad I read this today I needed it!

  5. So true! It’s very sobering to think that the quality of what we build will one day be tested by fire. I have to intentionally plan my days otherwise I’ll get to the end of the week and look back and ask, “What did I do this week that had eternal value?”.

  6. So true!! It’s a constant reminder that what we build will ultimately be tested by fire and show the quality of each person’s work. Sobering, right?

    I have to intentionally plan my days otherwise I’ll find my weeks go by and I’ll look back and think, ‘What did I actually do this week that was of eternal value?’.

  9. Thank you for sharing. Such a great read. Our lives and how we live it are a direct result of how we are living our lives with Christ and how we can continue to better ourselves because that’s all He wants for us.

What if she didn’t use her time wisely? Will she reap nothing? ———- this part wrecked me. It really makes you think even deeper about this verse from a point of view I have never thought of before! This is such a popular bible verse but a lot of times we women don’t understand the depth behind the proverbs 31 woman. What made her fruitful? What was her foundation! What has she done with what God has given her? Are we truly embodying this woman who God has portrayed to us? I absolutely love this post. Definitely calls for further self reflection!   14. Michelle Obama inspires me, and honestly a great model for all women on family values, intelligence, and teamplayer. She shows strength under contentment and grace. I love the way the relationship between Her and President Obama. Next, on my list would be Angela Bassett, strength of meekness. And I’m so happy to have seen her in Black Panther. Amazing! Princess Kate and now future Princess Meghan, grace, poise, dignity, strength, and intelligence with great fashion. They all show women of worth, as we have all been crowned by God to be worthy. Being a woman is great, and so does being a Man (can’t forget the gentlemen, emphasize on gentleman).

  15. I have a rich heritage of godly women in my family, each having a part in showing me Christ. The public figure that comes to mind is Corrie Ten Boom. She was courageous, faithful, sacrificing and the greatest lesson I learned from her was in forgiveness.

If I dedicate myself to serving the Lord, and working where He places me, He is going to make my efforts fruitful. 🙂 Women I admire… Abigail, for her wisdom and gentle spirit; Sarah for her submission to God and Abraham; Esther, for her humility.   21. Oh my gosh, this was powerful and resonating! I’m so like you, Lord I better do well because if she’s getting the fruit of her hands – she’s reaping whatever seeds she has sown; whether good or bad. Lord may the fruit of my hands yield more blessings than cursings, not only for me but for the lives that we touch. I love Priscilla Shirer, I’m actually going to be reading one of her bible plans in a week, once I get done with Dr. Charles Stanley. Some women that inspire me, are women in whom are not only talking the truth but living it out as well, they’re actually walking what they’re preaching about – my mother was one of those women and I have others in my very small circle ; ) – Great Post and Love the Picture!
