GOD’S PORTRAIT OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN

A few years ago, in our Sunday school class, the ladies studied out of a book entitled ‘God’s Portrait of a Beautiful Woman‘ by Dorthy Davis.  IMG_2809GOD’s Portrait; not A portrait…implying that any portrait will do, not Benny’s portrait, nor is it even my portrait.  God’s portrait of a beautiful woman! Would she look like me? Would she look like you?  Maybe, she looked liked Ruth, when she told Naomi in Ruth 1:1

“Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.

More than likely, she looked like Hannah, when she realized in 1 Samuel 2:2

“No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

Perhaps she looked liked Esther, when she uttered the words in Esther 4:16

“Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”

Oh, but I’m so sure, she looked like Mary, when she told the angel Gabriel in Luke 1:38

“Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word…”

These ladies all had one thing in common; SURRENDER! I suppose then, that the only way to become God’s portrait of a beautiful woman is to surrender to Him. We do that by spending time with Him and obeying His Word.

He is shaping, molding and remaking us into His very image.  His portrait of a beautiful woman is lovely, from the inside out. pro-31-30Proverbs 31:30 condenses what that looks like, ‘…a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised’. God’s portrait demands complete obedience to His Word.  When we fail to obey, My friend, believe me, He has already made provision for our failure, by providing forgiveness.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have taken the time to follow the blog.  I am humbled by your comments and likes on the posts.  May the Lord be honored on this adventure.

Have a blessed day and remember: God’s love is unfailing, unwavering and unconditional!

If the world’s standard was the criterion, would you be chosen, as a portrait of a beautiful woman?

  1. Very inspirational, for we so often forget the Women of God and just how beautifully they stood in their power in sweet surrender. Giving up all, yet giving up nothing for they gained all. Reminds me of the potter’s vessel. We are constantly being molded and remade in a stronger version with our blemishes smoothed over. Each redemption, more beautiful than the one before.

  2. This is so beautiful! In a world full of airbrushed women, and perfect Instagram poses, it can be so difficult to discern what is real and what is not. But Christ promises us that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Therefore we can cling to the truth found scripture and embrace His identity because it never changes. Thank you for sharing some of that truth here!
