Don’t you think that’s a fantastic verse? I love that verse. Can you see her? She is stately, she walks tall, she is confident. She knows who she is; and although she is not defined by her clothing, her appearance is one of dignity. Isn’t it amazing how we can tell so much about her? Isn’t it amazing how much our clothing can tell so much about us? How do we want to be known? I want to emulate her; this woman of strength, dignity and integrity. We can all agree that our choice of styles is different, but as Christians, we do all agree that one thing we should all have in common in modesty.
I love to thrift! Okay, I have admitted it, and now we can move along. About ninety percent (90%) of my closet is from thrift stores or consignment stores and that includes most my shoes. When we travel, I look for thrift stores in that area. My husband thinks I have a problem, but I have reminded him that this is my contribution to saving us money. I know you are agreeing with me. My choice of thrift stores is the Salvation Army. Every Wednesday, where I live, they have fifty percent (50%) off four out of the five colors. What a deal! Here are a few of my latest purchases!
The little munchkin at my feet is Jazz, our kitten, you may catch a glimpse of her again. We have come to the conclusion, that she is the smartest cat around! Anyway, this is my ‘winter’ mall/shopping outfit. The boots are by Guess, they are comfortable, the heel isn’t too high, but they are kind of skinny, with elastic at the top, making it necessary to wear these high rise skinny jeans by Refuge. The graphic tee is a brand called Viatran and the blazer by Ana. I usually dress in layers, even in the summer.
Love the juxtaposition of this outfit. Graphic tee by Old Navy, skirt by Ann Taylor, shoes are Aldo, blazer are Lauren Ralph Lauren. I would go to church with this ensemble. I am more prone to muted colors. I like my statement pieces to be the accessories.
Like I said black and white are my thing. Did I already say that? Okay well I just did. Everything goes with black and white. The shoes are by Kate Prestige, the blazer look and feel beautiful, it is by Z Studio, the dress is by AB Studio.
I know what I just said, I know, I know, already! BUT this dress is by Calvin Klein. I couldn’t, just could not leave it there and at $3.00! Yes, you read right! I must admit, I hesitated for a split second, but the brand sold me. I paired it with this H&M blazer to ‘tone’ it down a bit. Now these shoes…aren’t they pretty? They are BCBG. They are comfortable and cute, I would wear these as my pop of color, probably not with the dress. Just too much color for me.
So, what do you think? Isn’t thrifting something you need to get into? Tell yourself, your husband or your parents, this is your contribution toward saving the environment (you know, ‘fast fashion’ and all that) and to saving the family lots and lots of money.
Our outward appearance does make a small contribution to our identity, but as the Bible say in I Samuel 16:7 … For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” We also live in world, where our testimony counts and part of that is our appearance, because we are told in I Samuel 16:7 … For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Let me hear your thoughts about thrifting? Will you do it? Why or why not?
Have a blessed day and remember, God’s love is unfailing, unwavering and unconditional!

I lost weight about 18 months ago, had to go to Thrifty Shopper near my daughter in LA to get jeans that won’t fall down and a dress for church! Well, I also did a lot of shopping at our local thrift store when I returned to fill out my “new” wardrobe; also donated what didn’t fit any more! We brought our 4 kids up going to the city to “Sally’s closet” as a friend says (Salvation Army) and my daughter was thrilled as a tween showing off her designer jeans we paid $2.00 for! She still can’t pass up a clearance rack! I also was blessed with some wonderful dresses that actually cover my knees for under $15.00 at Burlington and Marshalls as well as TJ Maxx (someone needs to buy things in the regular stores to give us the chance to buy them used). Love the hunt! Modesty is really chic if you think about it; the more that’s hanging out, the less imagination others need to see you, then people wonder why they get hit on???
Most of us look much better with modest coverings over our humanity, but I think the Lord loves colorful, modest stuff!

Thrifting is terrific – a great way to save money and the environment too. My mom has worked for decades at the “Nearly New” shop in her church and I’ve gotten many great gifts as a result!
For your readers who don’t live near big stores church thrift shops or other not-for-profit sites may be just the ticket.
Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and style!

I absolutely adore the first two outfits!! We live near the Toledo area, and thrifting is an important part of our budget. I never pay for anything at full retail price unless I absolutely have to. 😂

I do thrifting for the girls occasionally and I need to get back into it! I always am so surprised for some reason. I have not found any good ones yet for me. I think I need to check the ones closer to Houston as we are in a very rural area. Beautiful outfits!

In today’s society, it easy to forget that our outer appearance doesn’t carry the same weight as inner appearance. God is so awesome because he ONLY sees the inner AND forgives us if our inner appearance is a little jacked up. Great post!

These are some awesome thrifting finds! I love thrifting and I am ALL for it. I found my favorite sweater and pair of shorts thrifting. Recently, I’ve found a store that sells clothing from department stores for 3-20 dollars. It’s been my fave store for a while. They have some lucky finds in there.
