I grew up in a very conservative church. As a child, I remember thinking that hymns were the very bane of my existence. I did not like hymns; I thought at the time, that they were so slow and boring. Why couldn’t the worship leader sing more upbeat songs!?
Now, I’m becoming my mother, when did that happen? How could I have missed the transition? I sing hymns! Who am I? There is now, such an appreciation of those old hymns. My soul is happy, when we sing these songs.
Today, as we celebrate Valentine’s Day, this song comes to mind, written by Isaac Watts, in 1707, “When I survey the wondrous cross”.
I love the words of that song. It reminds me that I do not need a significant other to celebrate this day of love. As a matter of fact, I should remember everyday, not only today, I have rest; I can find comfort; I have a Friend, who is the best Listener, better than all men. I can be assured of that perfect, unwavering, unfailing, unprecedented, constant love, every day. Oh how He loves me, not because of me, but Praise God, in spite of me. There is no love like the love of God. No one and nothing can be compared to it. It cannot be attained by works. It is already ours!
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY
